We found an Atlas moth outside our apartment in Bangalore. We were amazed by its size (wing span about 6") and beauty. The Atlas moth is the largest in the world and its wing span can reach 12". It's found throughout forested India. It doesn't feed at all in its adult stage which lasts for 2 weeks, and depends instead on fat reserves built up when it was a caterpillar.
For the background I used a photograph by Amber of the bark of an eucalyptus tree in Ooty.
