A History of Doubt
In Speaking of Faith with Krista Trippet, Trippet is joined by poet and historian, Jenifer Michael Hecht to talk about the History of Doubt. Hecht talks about the differences between doubters today, versus those in the times of the Greeks and goes over the different levels of doubters in the Ancient Greek Society.
Hecht breaks up the doubters into three levels: Cynics, Skeptics, and the Epicurians. The Cynics went through life not worrying about anything so you do not have to defend your values agaisnt the world. Skepetics were those like Socrates who questioned what he couldn't know and accepted that one could not know everything. Epicurians were those who suggested that all should love what they have and realize that there is nothing better than cold water when you are thirsty.

Hecht included the likes of Socrates and Job as some of the greatest doubters and heroes of faith. At the begining book of Job, he believes in indivigual divine justice which is the belief that good people will have success. Job is a good example because of the personal tests Job goes through he questions God, but in turn comes back to God shortly after.
