The Contra Costa Local
The Contra Costa Local has meetings once a month, sometimes a guest
speaker is present. We have events for “members only” and we have
public
events such as poker runs, night cruises, group rides to races or other
runs such as our state run. We have volunteered at the Danville
motorcycle
show, and we have had Christmas parties and collections for the
Contra
Costa Food Bank. Sometimes we write letters to our legislators at
meetings.
The meetings start at 7:30 and usually last for about 1 1/2 hours. We
have
a phone tree that will remind you of meetings and
inform
you of any important changes that effect us. Feel free to come and
listen
to our meetings, and bring a friend with you.
Please join us at our Convergence Run in October. Many of our members
have found good riding partners and have made new friends from our pool
of local motorcyclists. Our officers are voted on every November by the
current membership, and we are always looking for motivated people to
help
in our chapter. We have a listing of the local businesses in our
area that are ABATE members, which are printed in the Bailing Wire
every
month. Please support the members that are supporting us in
Contra
Costa County.
What is ABATE anyway?
ABATE stands for American Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education. It is
a motorcyclists rights organization (MRO) dedicated to preserving
freedom
of choice and freedom of the road, with emphasis on education
and
safety.
Our members are active in programs for public awareness and motorcycle
safety, and in supporting many types of charity
events.
Anyone with an interest in promoting motorcycle rights and safety is
welcome to join. Included with membership are an ABATE membership card,
sew-on patch, and our monthly newsletter “The Bailing Wire”.
We have a lobbyist working for us in Sacramento, and we support the
Motorcycle Rights Foundation in Washington, D.C., and the
California
Motorcycle Association.
ABATE is a current non-profit corporation with tax exempt status. ABATE
is run by volunteers like yourself, that care enough to get involved.
Why should I join ABATE?
ABATE keeps it’s members informed in all areas of motorcycling. Even
if you don’t attend meetings you will read of the latest developments
in
California and the nation about motorcycle interests.
A united voice has more power, and as ABATE grows and its members come
from a greater cross section of motorcyclists, it will
represent
YOUR views more closely.
