Tarzan Christopher Davis
Posted Thursday,January 31,2002, 12:58:33 PM by Doug Davis

Christopher continues to love playing Tarzan. He insists on being called "Tarzan" Christopher Davis. He runs around in his loin cloth and even wears it to bed. Here's a photo of him in his gorilla stance.

Bowing Before Mom

In the evenings we like to brush Christopher's teeth for him to make sure they are clean. The other night Christopher told Tina, I'll get it ready for you. He runs in, puts down the toilet seat lid, steps back, bows and gestures with his hands for her to sit down. How polite!

Like's a Painting

Christopher noticed my Aunt Verna's painting of a landscape in Nebraska. She gave it to us as a wedding present. He pointed out various features saying, "I like the bushes, the mountains, the trees. It's beautiful!". He was very sweet and genuinely loved the painting.

Height & Weight

Christopher went to the doctor today for his five year exam (a bit late). He's doing fine. His height was 46.25 inches (90th percentile). His weight was 68 pounds (95+ percentile). He's getting quite a bit of exercise right now with all his school activities and his love of playing Tarzan. We're hoping he'll really trim up this next year.

Understanding Day and Night
Posted Thursday,January 24,2002, 02:04:56 PM by Doug Davis
Christopher's preschool is studying day and night this week. Last night Christopher blew me away with his explaination of how the Earth and sun work. With a blow-up globe he got for Christmas and a reading light attached to his bed he showed me where on the globe was day and where was night. But he went further. He pointed to the western edge of the lighted area and explained that it was morning their and on the eastern edge was evening. And then told me about the spin of the Earth and how gravity holds us down. I was very impressed.

Computer Parts
Posted Wednesday,January 23,2002, 12:31:12 PM by Doug Davis

Christopher has been collecting the old parts from our computer. A week ago we learned that one of the monitors had broken at his preschool. We had a spare one so we took it over their and replaced the broken one. Christopher then asked if he could have the broken monitor to add to his collection. He explained that then he would have a keyboard, mouse, monitor and joy stick and all he would need would be the "box" (or CPU as we call it). Cute idea, but there's no way we're going to give him an big old defunct monitor to play with.

A few days later Christopher took the joystick in the van. He pretended he was playing computer games on an imaginary monitor that he explained was attached to the back of the car seat in front of him. Quite an imagination.

Tarzan and Buzz
Posted Tuesday,January 22,2002, 12:48:37 PM by Doug Davis

Christopher now likes to pretend he's Tarzan. He alwo likes to dress the part. So Tina made him a loin cloth and he's been running around the house half naked on all fours pretended to be Tarzan. He doesn't seem to mind that it's winter and a bit chilly. This weekend we found a sale at the Disney store. They had Buzz Lightyear costumes half off. Christopher wanted to buy it with his own money, so we got it and he loves it. Now he can alternate between being Buzz and Tarzan. Wonder if he'll end up putting that loin cloth on over his Buzz costume. Now that really would be something!

Dot-To-Dot
Posted Wednesday,January 09,2002, 07:52:43 AM by Doug Davis

Christopher now likes doing dot-to-dot pictures. It's really doing wonders for his ability to count. Some of the pictures go over 100 dots. He still sometimes gets numbers reversed. For example, he may accidentally draw a line to 54 when he's looking for 45. Amazingly, he doesn't do that too often.

Birthday Colors
Posted Wednesday,January 09,2002, 07:49:13 AM by Doug Davis

Christopher is going to a birthday party tonight. His first sleep-over. Last night we had him write a birthday card. He told me, while picking marker colors, "I'm going to use light colors because you use light colors on birthdays." Don't ask me why.

He did a great job writing his own name. I only helped him on one letter. He is also writing neater and smaller, so it fits on one line!

School Starts
Posted Tuesday,January 08,2002, 12:38:29 PM by Doug Davis
Today is the first day back to preschool after the Christmas holiday. I'm sure he'll enjoy being with his friends again. Tina is starting to teach at Christopher's school today. She'll be teaching the two-year-olds. Hopefully her day will go well too.
