Systems Security Specialist, L3 Communications, April 2005 – Present:
Information Systems Security Officer for a U.S. Air Force Intelligence Squadron. Performs security hardening and auditing of all system functions. Analyzes security vulnerabilities on Sun Solaris and Microsoft Windows server and workstation platforms, and Cisco routers and switches. Performs system certification testing, and provide corrective feedback for all identified security vulnerabilities. Provides security assessment data for incorporation into new system designs.

Academic Study, June 2004 – March 2005:
Attended formal Cisco, Red Hat, and Microsoft courses at a Certified Technical Education Center. Completed nine Microsoft Official Courses for the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 program, and completed the Instructional Skills Training for the Microsoft Certified Trainer program. Self-study and testing for updated Microsoft, Cisco, and CompTIA certifications.

Systems Support, Houston Associates, Inc., September 2003 – May 2004:
Member of team that transitioned communications operations at Manas Air Base, Kyrgyzstan, from deployed Combat Communications to permanent fixed operations. Engineered hardware and software technical solutions and provided in-shop maintenance for all Air Base computer systems. Maintained laboratory for debugging system anomalies off the network. Member of a three-person team that planned and implemented the configuration and installation of 400 new desktop systems. Authored site Communications Equipment Preventative Maintenance Inspection (PMI) Plan.

Network & System Administration, Nevada Air National Guard, September 1998 - April 2003:
Administered Sun Solaris, Trusted Solaris, and Microsoft Windows Operating Systems. Supported Intelligence, Surveillance, & Reconnaissance (ISR) related ground systems including imagery database servers, fixed and deployable communications systems, UNIX & PC-based clients, and equipment facilitating the receipt, dissemination, display, and analysis of near-real-time (NRT) satellite broadcast data. Performed system hardware and software installation, testing, integration, upgrades, and troubleshooting. Resolved non-routine network, switch, and router problems. Wrote shell scripts, HTML documents, procedures, and operating instructions. Drew schematics and connectivity diagrams. Director of Health and Safety Services, American Red Cross, November 2000 - June 2001:
Interim position. Health and Safety Lead for State of Nevada. Directly managed operations in northwest Nevada, oversaw operations of the two field offices in northeast Nevada, and provided policy guidance for offices in southern Nevada. Directly supervised main office staff of four, managed an off-site professional instructor staff of twenty, and a volunteer force of over four hundred. Organized two major annual fund raising events. Acquired new computer systems for all offices in Northern Nevada, and designed and installed a new network system in the main office. Implemented the first website for the American Red Cross in northern Nevada. Provided consultation and education services to safety managers at major corporations and coordinated joint activities with other non-profit organizations across northern Nevada. Represented the Chapter at the American National Red Cross 2001 Annual Health & Safety Convention. Managed the implementation of newly updated safety training programs, including the re-training of all instructors and instructor trainers in Northern Nevada.

Firmware Engineering & System Administration, International Game Technology, September 1994 - January 1999:
Developed firmware using C, C++, and Intel assembly languages for embedded systems using Intel RISC processors. Built prototype printed circuit boards. Tested new games and gaming equipment. Assembled, configured, networked, and troubleshot casino gaming equipment and in-circuit emulation stations. Administered a secure LAN integrating Unix, VMS, OS2, Linux, Windows NT, and Windows 9x Operating Systems. Installed, configured, and maintained software and hardware on x86, VAX, and Alpha platforms.

Avionic Sensors Maintenance, Nevada Air National Guard, September 1993 - September 1998:
Maintained cameras, electro-optical sensors, and sensor control systems on RF-4C and RC-130 reconnaissance aircraft. Experienced with oscilloscopes, analog and digital multi-meters, soldering, wiring, solder-less connections, drawing and interpreting schematics, and troubleshooting to the component level. Designed a single-board embedded computer to provide data transfer between legacy proprietary airborne sensor systems and current open technology.

Self-Employed Small Business Consultant, November 1987 - September 1993:
Independent contractor consultant to small businesses, offering a broad range of consulting services, including Real Estate, Insurance, and IT support. Project Management and Laboratory Supervision, Air Force Technical Applications Center, May 1982 - March 1990:
Managed scientific projects which monitor world-wide atmospheric burdens of radioactivity. Directed the analysis efforts for multiple analysis teams, performed QA on data and procedures, and prepared the final reports on results. Participated as a flight crew member and project lead on non-routine aerial sample collection operations. Performed separations and purifications of fission products and induced radionuclide species, utilizing both wet chemistry and instrumental analysis procedures. Technically reviewed and rewrote 40 radiochemical laboratory procedures. Authored a laboratory safety reference and training manual. Developed an on-the-job training program which decreased technician training time by 35%. Essential member of the primary team which analyzed samples from the Chernobyl reactor accident.

Air Base Ground Defense, Strategic Air Command, July 1978 – May 1982:
Provided armed security to alert aircraft and nuclear weapons storage area. Performed close-in security, entry control, alarm monitoring, convoy support, and fire-team leader. Early promotion to area supervisor, responsible for 30 armed guards.

Management and Training, American Red Cross, August 1977 - 2003:
Volunteer since 1974. Chairman of Health and Safety Services, Sacramento Area Chapter, Sacramento, California, 1987-1990. Responsible for directly managing operations over a six county area of northern California, including managing the activities of nearly 5000 department volunteers. Collaborated on the curriculum development and served on the faculty of two Regional Staff Leadership Colleges. Organized the facilities and managed a staff of 400, for two consecutive years, for the primary site of the nation’s largest CPR training event. Accommodated more than 4000 participants at one site in one day. Certified as a Health and Safety Instructor since 1977, and an Instructor Trainer since 1987. I have trained and certified more than 1000 Instructors in various Health, Safety, Disaster Preparedness, and general adult education disciplines.
