Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage
I have been to visit Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage a couple of times. It is about 2 hours from Kitwe, about 100 kms on semi-tar (1 hour) and then a bad dirt road of about 10 km for the next hour !!
It was established quite some time ago and is run by Sheila and David Siddle who I think used to be farmers in the area - they now look after mainly rescued Chimps and a variety of other wildlife - no state funding whatsoever and no entrance fee charged for fear of deterring locals.
On the way there, one drives past one of the open pits of Nchanga Mine (at Chingola) - I think this is one of the small ones :

This guy above is one of the "escapees" who are kept in an area surrounded by an electric fence to stop them from getting out.

I don't think the electric fence was working as Billy didn't seem to be too perturbed by it. She broke through and went to find the food stash. This building used to be the Siddle's house, but Billy kept breaking in and so they let her have it and built a new one next door ! The last photo was taken by Kuzma as I had already bolted up the stairs and around the corner.

Pinky was very keen to come and visit us - here he is coming through the fence to see what we were up to. See how human the guy is using a bush orange as a cup to drink from.
From Chimfunshi, we went around the corner to the "Water Hole" down at the Kafue River and sipped a quiet few beers from the DRC across the river :

The last pic is one of the many anthills we saw when driving out of there.
