We left home on 27 April 2001 and headed up to Botswana. After some idiot lost his passport, we were too late to go and stay at Nata Lodge where we had booked and paid (!!), so we headed for Francistown and stayed in the Marang Hotel. Really nice place, but all we needed was a bed after a stressful day, so the luxury was lost on us. The price tag wasn't though. Anyway, below is the sunset we saw on our way to Francistown.
The next day we got up really early and tried to make up lost time from the day before. Two hours to Nata and then another three to Kazangula Ferry. Minor sports with an obnoxious customs official who didn't want me to take my vehicle out of the common customs area for longer than three months. I had news for him, but didn't tell him.
We got to the ferry to find "she is bloken" !! We waited for about two hours, already two hours behind where we wanted to be because of the delays the day before, and only another five hours to Lusaka. Another pleasant days' driving in Africa. The ferry when she eventually got going was quite an experience. I wondered if you guys back home were going to read about us in the Times of Victoria Falls . . . . "Green Nissan Bakkie Successfully Shoots the Falls Rapid" . . .

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics of the trip to Lusaka as I was too busy staying alive dodging potholes, broken down trucks and pedestrians. I think all 11 million of the local population came to the roadside to welcome us to their country.
We stayed over at the Lusaka Protea Safari Lodge
