Cub Scout Pack 51, BSA
January 2001

Charter Renewal / Re-registration: Each year in January, The Pack renews it’s charter with the National Council B.S.A.  At this time we need to reregister all members of the pack for the year February 1, 2001 through January 31, 2002.  The membership renewal fee is $35.00 per boy ($30.00 per boy for families with 2 or more scouts).  As in past years, families will be allowed the option of paying in two installments.  The first payment of $20.00 is due by the 15th of January and the balance of $15.00 is due by the end of February.  Please inform Mr. Bradley or Mr. Dumais if you have any problems meeting the payment schedule, so that we can work out other arrangements.

PINEWOOD DERBY:  Car kits will be distributed to all scouts starting Wed. December 20th. Car kits for the scouts will be provided by the pack at no charge to the boys.  For any siblings or parents who wish to enter a car in the race, the pack will resell kits at our cost, which is $3.00.  First weigh-in will be held on Wednesday, January 31st. Final weigh-in will be Saturday, February 10th after the scouting for Food drive.  ALL cars must be certified and impounded by the race committee on February 10th!!   The race will be held on Sunday February 11th.  The Derby will start at 12:30 P.M. beginning with the Tiger Cub Scouts and end approximately 4:00 P.M.  The Pack will be sponsoring a CHUCK WAGON LUNCH during the Pinewood Derby. Hot dogs, pizza, bags of chips, juice drinks and pastry will be available for a very reasonable price.  Coffee and tea will be available to the adults.  Any profits from the CHUCK WAGON LUNCH will go directly to the Pack Treasury.

If you have any questions, please call or ask Jim Bradley 686-7302 or Mark Dumais 683-9438.

Scouting for Food will be held on Saturday February 3rd and Saturday February 10th.  Bag distribution will be on the 3rd and collection on the 10th.  We will start at 9:00 AM and it usually takes about 2 – 2 ½ hours each day.  We will need a few adults to drive and/or supervise the boys each day.

Candy Bar Sale:  We will be selling Hebert Chocolate bars starting in January to help defray the cost of running the pack events.  The candy bars are $1.00 each.  We will have prizes for the top seller in each den, and the top seller in the pack, as well as participation awards for all the scouts who sell.

Pocketknives:  I have had reports of boys bringing pocketknives with them to the hall on Wednesday night opening them at the hall and displaying them in an unsafe manner.   Although a knife can be an indispensable tool in the outdoors, there is no reason that pocketknives should be needed at the den meetings.  I would request that parents not have their son bring a knife to the meetings, unless they are required for that week’s den meeting work. Because of the crowded conditions at the hall, effective immediately, any pocketknives that are open and/or displayed at meetings will be confiscated by a leader and returned to the scout’s parent(s).
