Happy New Year! '99 will be a big one, with advancement to third grade and Bear! In order to get there, of course, we need to complete the Wolf requirements and maybe earn some arrow points along the way.

This month the overall theme will be crime prevention. For the pack meeting on the 20th, McGruff will make an appearance. We will complete our work on Collections (achievement 6), and start on some arrow points. In keeping with the theme, we will spend some time at our second meeting this month completing achievement 9, Be Safe at Home, and discussing achievement 12, Making Choices.

At the end of the month, the first weigh-in for this year's Pinewood Derby will take place. The weigh-in will provide valuable feedback regarding the car's construction. Please read the hand out provided last month.  If you have ANY questions, do not hesitate to ask!  During this meeting, the cubs will be able to work on their cars or join in some fun to earn an arrow point or two.

For the month of January (and early February), Pack 51/Den 3 will have the following events:

01/06  Share collections/Arrow point elective

01/13    Safe home/Making choices

01/16  Family Swim Night Greater Lawrence Voke

01/20  Pack Meeting - McGruff Crime Prevention

01/27    First weigh-in/Arrow Point elective
Game night

02/03  Second (final) weigh-in Complete your car!

02/07    Scout Sunday/ Pinewood Derby

For Scout Sunday, interested scouts should plan to attend 11:30 Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel.  Scouts should meet, in uniform, at 10:45 in the parking lot.

Experience has shown that the pinewood derby can last into the late afternoon.  We will have hot dogs and other treats available for purchase.

Going forward, I expect to complete Den activities for the requirements for Wolf by February.  We will then focus den activities on arrow points. If you would like for me to re-visit a prior topic, please let me know.
