Conference dedicated to the 80th
anniversary of the
"Emil Racovita" Speleological Institute
The most important speleological event before the XIIIth International Congress to be held in Brasilia in the year 2001 and one of the world's most traditional but unofficial scientific meeting "Friends of Karst", cannot be left out of your agenda for the year 2000
Friends of Karst is an informal group of scientists and others with an interest in caves and karst landscapes. Occasional gatherings have been held through the years throughout the USA as well as other countries, including Canada, the Bahamas, and Norway. Meetings and field trips provide a forum for discussion of karst problems, emphasizing current ideas and ongoing work.
Theoretical and Applied Karstology: the main purpose of this annual manifestation is to develop a true basis for cooperation among all specialists interested in the field of karstology and physical speleology associated either to industry, research institutes or academic institutions. Another important goal of Theoretical and Applied Karstology Symposia is to help the young generation of researchers to become not only compentent theoreticians, but also effecient scientific workers in applicative branches of Speleology and Karstology.
General information:
The conference will take place from July 14 to 23, 2000 in the city of Cluj (Transylvania, Romania).Accomodation & Transport:The host of the conference will be the University of Cluj (Faculty of Biology & Geology) and the Speleological Institute “Emil Racovita“.
