"faces of douglas" is to be viewed with a sense of humor. the nature of a personal home page is fundamentally vain and self-indulgent. boastfulness is the name of the game. in today's commercial culture, where we must often "sell ourselves", we might learn to have fun with it and not take it too seriously.
"faces" tries, as the name describes, to be a site of many faces. in the attempt to be to something of interest to so many types of viewers, it may, at times, fail to be interesting, appropriate or logical to specific viewers. try to enjoy the confusing parts. "faces" replaces my earlier web site, as my life has changed a lot in the past few years. the new site hopes to make clear the fact that i no longer have my primary residence in the united states and that i now have different lives in different parts of the world. the current site reorganization involves a replacement of the older home page with the newer "faces" homepage. many of the supporting pages of the newer site are simply the pages of the older site. consequently there is a lack of continuity between the styles of newer and older pages. the complete resyncronization of supporting pages to the newer "faces" paradigm is a considerable project. as i only work on this site when i have nothing better to do, this may take a while. try to be patient. additional aspects of the "faces" pages may be perceived odd. the use of lower case throughout is one example. my referring to myself as "douglas" and not as "i" or "me" (i.e. the use of the third person) alters the mood of the site and simply hopes to be playfully pretentious. again, it is not to be taken too seriously. "faces" will initially be launched in english only. foreign language support will be temporarily managed by the home pages of the older site. "faces" home pages in foreign languages will replace the older home pages when they are ready to go online. this may take some time. again, try to be patient. many thanks to vanessa, mike, bruce and others for sending photos. |
