TROOP 266 - SCOUT'S 10 ESSENTIALS
1. When traveling to and from troop activities, the Class "A" Uniform shall be worn, unless an alternate uniform has been prescribed by the Scoutmaster or event leader.
2. When hiking, other than a day hike, or camping each scout shall have a empty #10 can with one end neatly (no sharp edges) removed and a small trowel or shovel.
3. Each scout shall be responsible for having in their possession the required Scout Essentials at each camp-out or activity of the troop unless advised otherwise by their junior or adult leader.
4. All of the items except for extra clothing should be kept in a fanny pack or similar item that is easy to transport and access.
5. Even though there are more than ten items in this troops scout essentials, they shall be cited as the 10 Essentials and shall include the following items:
a. Pocketknife (sharp);
b. First Aid Kit, including moleskin or similar item;
c. Compass;
d. Rain Gear;
e. Flashlight and extra batteries;
f. Trail food or hard candy;
g. Canteen or sealable water bottle with water;
h. Matches (waterproof) and fire starters;
I. Sun and lip protection;
j. Insect repellent;
k. Plastic Garbage Bags (3 heavy weight);
l. Note pad and pen or pencil;
m. Map of area;
n. Emergency Blanket;
o. Metal mirror or signaling device;
p. 50' braided nylon rope;
q. Needle and thread;
r. Extra clothing, especially a jacket;
s. Sierra cup or equivalent;
t. High intensity whistle and lanyard; and
u. Other items you have found useful.
