Teen Iceman, with Dad's ("The Harlanator's") '53 M38A1.  Buried as usual. This is Union Valley Reservoir in 1976 before He bought his own jeep. The M38A1 (MD) was built from 1952 until 1957 for the U.S. military forces and from 1958 until 1971 for export to foreign governments.

grnjp1.jpg (24688 bytes) Here is the whole family at Excelsior Mine in 1978, Fordyce Creek Trail, CA.

This Jeep was purchased in an Air force surplus auction in 1971, in Reno for $350.00, and built by The Harlanator, when we were kids.  It came with standard Army green paint, a 24 volt system and underwater snorkel gear for fording creeks.  It was all pretty much there, except the seats, top and the front driveline.   He rebuilt it from the ground up and painted it lime green.  It had lots of holes in the body that had to be filled, because it was some kind of radio/communication vehicle in the Korean war and it had a lot of equipment on it.  It also, had foot pedal starter, and all this was converted over to a standard 12 volt system.

Pretty good articulation for those days! This is how we all got started on jeeping. Fordyce trail is no slouch, not bad for a flat head four, a T-90 three speed and 5:38 gears.  Top speed was 55 mph.

This jeep was rolled by Teen Iceman in 1978 and rebuilt.  Later in about 1979, green jeep was sold in Sacramento for about $1,500.00.
