The perch is the little cousin of the walleye and sauger. It makes for excellent eating and is a favorite catch of most people who fish. Its distribution covers most fresh- waters along the eastern Atlantic seaboard (south to the Carolinas), the Great Lakes region, and the Mississippi Valley. |
Perch prefer lakes but they also live in creeks and rivers. They are day-feeding school fish and are active most any time of the year. Still or fly fishing using live bait or small flies is very effective. |
