The perch is the little cousin of the walleye and sauger. It makes for excellent eating and is a favorite catch of most people who fish. Its distribution covers most fresh- waters along the eastern Atlantic seaboard (south to the Carolinas), the Great Lakes region, and the Mississippi Valley.

Perch prefer lakes but they also live in creeks and rivers. They are day-feeding school fish and are active most any time of the year. Still or fly fishing using live bait or small flies is very effective.
