Troop 89 began in 1914 as Troop 1. In 1924, Troop 1 dropped its charter but later that year was chartered as Troop 89. Nevertheless, Troop 89 forgot to re-charter in 1925 and in 1926 Troop 89 was chartered and continues to this day. In February of 2001, Troop 89 celebrated its 75th anniversary.
In 1960, Troop 89 sent 29 boys to the National Jamboree in Colorado Springs. At that time they established a jamboree fund in which the troop would pay 1/3 of the boys way as long as the boy earned 1/3 and the parents paid 1/3. This fund has continued ever since and still exists today.
Since 1926, Troop 89 has had 93 Eagle Scouts.
