"Mus'rat Jack" and Friends
Purpose: The purpose of Buckskin Ministries is to win souls to Christ. More specifically, it is to win to Christ those who participate in the companion sports of Buckskinning (also known as rendezvousing or re-enacting) and Black Powder Shooting.
Focus: The primary focus of Buckskin Ministries is to be salvation. Winning lost buckskinners to Jesus by: associating with them in a pre-1840 environment (specifically, at rendezvous and indoor trade fairs), camping next to them, shooting alongside them in the black powder matches, trading with them – in all things allowing the light of Jesus’ love to flow through us.
--We will reach out to buckskinners by holding the Sunday morning service in the rendezvous camp. This service is to resemble an 1800-1820 camp meeting. All the songs, the prayers, and the messages will be geared towards a pre-1840 audience.
--Camp chaplain’s duties include: performing weddings and funerals (where legal), always in keeping with the pre-1840 style of ministry, and providing limited personal counseling and prayer, in the camps and over the telephone.
--Our secondary focus is to teach about our religious heritage and the effect that the Gospel had on the everyday lives of the people of the frontier. By showing that many of the early frontiersmen were clothed in the full armor of Christ, as well as buckskins.
What We Believe: Buckskin Ministries is a non-denominational ministry. We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, and His sinless life. We believe that through His death on the cross, atonement was made for all who would come to Him in faith, and we believe in His resurrection from the dead, to take His rightful place as our advocate with God the Father.
