Surgeons Loop

Loops can be tied in the butt section of your leader with one of two knots, either the perfection knot or the surgeons loop.  They have equal strength; the perfection knot is a little neater and the surgeons loop is easier to tie.

Form a loop in the end of your leader the end should be held parallel to the standing part.
Form a second, larger loop in the doubled portion of your leader You should now have a doubled loop and a single loop.
Wrap the single loop around and through the doubled loop twice.
Tighten by pulling on the single loop with one hand and the standing part of the leader and the end together in the other hand.
Trim the tag end as close as possible.
