Mendelssohn   Elijah

Mendelssohn vividly recreates the story of the Old Testament prophet in a series of dramatic choruses and memorable arias, notably Obadiah's aria If with all your hearts, the trio Lift thine eyes, and the double chorus For he shall give his angels charge over thee.

Acclaimed 'a complete triumph' in The Times following its 1846 premiere at the Birmingham Festival, where it was performed with a chorus of 271 and an orchestra of 125,
Elijah has remained enduringly popular with choirs and audiences alike.
