Romsey Choral Society
Musical Director : David Truslove
Registered Charity 282827

Founded in 1981, and numbering  about 70 singers, the choir presents at least three concerts a year, two of which are in Romsey Abbey. Working regularly with professional soloists and orchestras, the choir has become one of the most progressive and adventurous choral groups in the region.

As well as singing many of the standard choral favourites (the last few seasons have included Mendelssohn's
Elijah, Brahm's Requiem, Elgar's Dream of Gerontius and Vaughan Williams'Dona nobis pacem), the Society frequently explores less familiar repertoire, and has established itself as a choir with a varied and challenging programme. In 1996 the Society won a Performing Rights Society Enterprise award.

The Society tours abroad and previous tours have taken in Cologne and Aachen in Germany, Ghent in Belgium and Caen, Bayeux, Mont St. Michel and Paimpol in France. In April 2004 we returned to France visiting Rouen and Montivilliers for concerts as part of Holy week.

In October 2000 the Society hosted a 'Come and Sing' event jointly hosted with Romsey Singers as both choirs lent their support to the Romsey Hospital Appeal. Over 350 singers packed the Abbey for a wonderful performance of Mozart's Requiem. A grand total of £5,625.72 was raised for the Appeal. On September 27th 2003 we repeated the receipe hosting a 'Come and Sing' Brahms Requiem, this time raising £4,962.16 for Jane Scarth House, a Romsey based charity which is part of the Wessex Cancer Trust.

A special event ? Would you like a choir ?
We can provide singers for services, weddings or other special occasions. For further information please ring 07714 203239.

Do you enjoy singing ?
If so, we particularly welcome enquiries from singers who possess strong, musical voices and who can show enthusiasm and commitment. Previous choral experience and an ability to read music would be expected. You should anticipate a brief, informal audition during the first term. Subscriptions are £30 per term or £75 for the year. New members get the first term free.

Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings in term time from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, at the Baptist Church in Bell Street Romsey (opposite La Parisienne). Prospective members are invited to contact our membership secretary on 01794 368878 from whom further details can be obtained.

Would you like to help us ?
Like other arts organisations, Romsey Choral Society needs the help of outside sponsors to sustain its increasingly successful profile and to secure the high standard of its performances with professional soloists and orchestras.

Romsey Choral Society actively seeks to build partnerships with public bodies, commercial enterprises and local businesses concerned with supporting the arts. You, or your company, may wish to consider assisting us either by making a donation or by sponsoring a specific concert. Alternatively you could help us by financing just one soloist or part of an orchestra.

We are most grateful to the following for their recent financial support:  Hampshire County Council, the Musicians' Union, Nalco/Exxon Chemicals Ltd, Southern Arts, Test Valley Borough Council and Test Valley Arts Foundation and Romsey Town Council.

Benefits to sponsors include: prominent acknowledgement of support and display of sponsor's name and logo on all publicity material including press releases; free advertising and features in concert programme; advance notice of events; complimentary reserved tickets and concert hospitality.

Our Sponsorship secretary 01794 512156 would be happy to discuss further details of benefits to prospective sponsors.
