MERCY
WILLIAM Born: 24 July 1923 Died: 22 Oct 1994 My mother comes from the family of Rev. Joshua. Rev. Joshua who was a teacher and a scholar, was ordained in Home Church, Nagercoil. Rev. Joshua was the pastor of the CSI Home Church, Nagercoil for 22 years from the year 1878. He laboured in this position and was mainly responsible in building the reputed & the largest church of its kind in South India and the congregation. “Everything to God in Prayer” was his motto in life. My mother is the great grand daughter of Rev. Joshua. Lewis Vaathiyar. my mother’s grandfather is the youngest son of Rev. Joshua. Lewis Vaathiyar and his wife Maisie Lewis (my Pooti) brought their children and grandchildren in a very spiritual, religious and disciplined way. My mother’s father is Malachi, a well known person in Nagercoil. He is known for his good personalities and culture. My mother’s mother Pooranam Malachi is the eldest daughter of Lewis Malachi and my mother is the youngest daughter of Malachi. My mother was a pet of Malachi, loved and cared by him. Maisie Lewis (masee pooti) was fond of my mother and brought her up in good character. My mother studied from a CONVENT which is rare in those olden days and had a very good English knowledge and excellent manners. She mastered playing piano and in singing during her school days. My mother born of rich parents (MALACHIS) enjoyed her childhood very much. She and her two sisters beautifully dressed up (always) go to the Convent by bicycles. Children used to run behind their bicycles since cycles are rare things those days. My mother grew up with excellent behaviour and exemplary character. She had very good intelligence and humourous jovial personality. She was a good mother. She brought us children with much love and great affection. She SACRIFICED anything and everything for her children. It is only because of her love and sacrifice, we children have come to a good level in our career and in life. My parents both father and mother were teachers in profession and were poor. In spite of that, my father and mother made all of us to study well and to get good jobs sacrificing everything – selling all the wealth and lands – They never kept anything for them and were poor all the time. They taught us children love and affection, kindness and gentleness. they showed and taught us unity and peace, harmony and sacrifice – sacrificing everything for the sake of family happiness, unity and peace. Both my father and mother never cared for MONEY and WEALTH. they brought us children too the same way – never to worry and care for money. “To help others and to give others as much as possible” is what they taught us. My father comes from the family of Mr. JOHN ABRAHAM (father’s father) and from the family of GEARGE the Catchiest (mother’s father). Mummy,
I am grief stricken. I miss you very much. We children cared for our mother. We showed love to her. The sickness she got was nothing before our love. She never really worried about her illness. Love conquers everything. She slept peacefully and gently and now she is under the care of our God the Almighty. She is a great example of a MOTHER. We miss you dear MOM ! We miss you !! You cherish in our minds and hearts. We will remember you as long as we live. Jesus
