Journal 10 - Thailand

Bangkok (Thailand), 9 April 2000

During the last few days I ran a lot of errands, did laundry, tried to catch up on sleep (in which I wasn’t too successful due to the extreme heat and humidity) and prepared myself for the next part of my trip. I also visited the beautiful traditional Thai house of the late Mr. Jim Thompson (an American). A serene place in chaotic Bangkok with fantastic interiors, religious sculptures and awesome paintings.

Tomorrow morning (April 10th) I will leave for Cambodia. A country which until recently (July 1997) was the scene of brutal fighting between the Khmer Rouge and the by Vietnam supported government. But it is also a country with many cultural sites (like Angkor Wat), interesting people and beautiful river and jungle scenes, at least that is what people told me.

After two to three weeks I will try to enter Laos from the south. From here I will, for about one month, gradually travel to the north (Golden Triangle). Finally I will return to Thailand by crossing the Mekong River near Chiang Khong.

Please note that during this period I only have very limited access to the Internet.
