There was a well
This was my town
There were trains
Blue cloaked mountains
A thousand miles and more
Autumn in the Country
There was a tree
Outside my door
Scarlet-hued in autumn light
Basking in the sun before
The chill of winter's night
And a small white shop
Sheep pastures and a church bell
An octogonal sign saying STOP
And whistles sad and merry
And a clickety clack as they
Rode the track heading
For Harpers Ferry
Appalachian song and story
Misty morning majesty
Clad now in burnished glory
Separate that town and me
And yet when autumntime comes in
I live the memory
