Lawrence first gained his choral experience
from National Junior College. The college choir participated in the Singapore Youth
Festival choral competition, where he sang the tenor solo for Haydn's 'Seasons'. This
performance earned the choir a distinction award.
Later, he attained a ABRSM Grade 8 qualification in
singing in 1995, under the tutelage of Mr Choo Hwee Lim.
During his years in the university, he was the
Tenor Section Leader as well as the student conductor of National University of Singapore
(NUS) Choir for 4 years. In 1996, he sang with 'The Leading Note' on the 'Aka A Cappella'
album, a recording that was favourably reviewed internationally.
In July 1998, Lawrence was one of only two selected
Singaporeans invited to sing with the Asian Youth Choir (AYC) where
participants came from 9 Asian countries. AYC was part of the Asia Culture Festival that
was held in Niigata Prefecture, Japan during which he was featured as a prominent soloist.
He is currently the Tenor section leader and
student conductor of the Singapore Youth Choir, which he joined since 1992.
