I think Norway is the worlds best country to live in, and here is some of the reasons why!!
Norway is a beatiful country, with fjords, mountains, beaches and forests.
We live in a safe society, where we know we are taken care of if we get sick, old or loose a job. A country with lots of space, beautiful nature, and one of the worlds best welfare system. If you think all this gives us high taxes, you are wrong. We pay the taxes, yes, but they are not too high! And then, we do not have to pay a cent in «health insurcanse», like for instanse all the Americans have to do.
WOMEN ISSUES:
Norwegian women are strong, independent women, and most of the young women are high educated. This is because norwegian women like to be independent and earn their own living, not let a man pay for them!!! This is also the case after a divorce, alomony is old fashioned and does not exist except for very old women that get divorced. Why should a man support a woman when she can support herself?
For those that would like to stay at home whith their children, money from the goverment makes it easier for them. For every child under 16 years you get abuot 105 dollars a month. If you have a child under the age of 3 and choose to stay at home, you get additional 400 dollars a month.
Equality of status between men and women: 65% of the women are working (1985), and this number is increasing. Laws for pregnant women and parents of smaller children, makes it easier for a woman to continue working after having children. When a working woman get pregnant, she can take off from work with full paid 3 weeks before birth, and almost one year after birth.
When the child gets sick, parents has each 10 days a year to stay home from work with full paid, 20 days for single parents.
HEALTH AND WELFARE: As a newborn boy you can excpect to be the age of 73 years old, as a new born girl you can excpect to have a lenght of life is 79,5 years.
In Norway we hardly have private hospitals. Taking care of the sick is the societys responsibility, therefore people are taken good care of.
Norwegian women breast feed their babies more than most countries all over the world. The health nurses recomend women to give the baby only breast milch to the age of the 6 months, and after that continue breast
feeding to the baby is about one year old.
In politics women are also well represented, if not as high as we could want. For years and years we had a woman priministar, wich is now the leader of WHO(World Health Organisation)- Gro Harlem Brundtland, a lady we are very proud of!
48% of the students at the university are women .
EMPLOYMENT: Unemployment rate is low, and if you are unemployed, you will get paid about 70% of your further income until 80 weeks. That time will make it possible for you to get a new job, dont you think ?
The norwegian law gives every employee the right to 4 weeks of vacation of year, no matter how long you have been working in the business. Every year you will get 10,5 % of the year income of the year before. This makes it easy for you to get paid, and still have the possibility to change work and take 4 weeks of vacation.
CRIME: Crime is low, although it is increasing. The average number of prisoners was in 1985 2.104 people.
ENVIRONMENT: Norwegians are best in the world in recycling their glass, paper, cans, and other garbage products. Since big piles of garbage is a growing problem all over the world, recycling give its tribute to help this problem.
