SOFIA FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA
Sofia Festival Orchestra was founded in 1986 and its debut in the same year under the baton of Emil Tchakarov with the participation of the great Bulgarian pianist Alexis Weissenberg marked the beginning of an ambitious and complex artistic project. The Orchestra, made up of Bulgaria’s leading musicians and former principals of Europe’s best-known orchestras, immediately undertook an intense concert programme which included performances by soloists like Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Nikolaj Ghiaurov, Agnes Baltsa, Nikolay Gedda, Natalia Gutman, Ivo Pogorelich etc… The Orchestra has several recordings for Sony Classical, Roberto Salemi, EMAM and Hungaroton under the baton of Emil Tchakarov, Julian Kovachev and Nayden Todorov. Concerts in Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, France, Russia and Switzerland (Lucerne Festival).
