Modern Composers

Grayson has worked with many modern composers. Most all have been inspired to write works specifically for the contralto to perform.

Rohan Leach

Rohan is an English composer having had his works performed on every continent in the world. In Summer 2001, he wrote, "The Paris Minitures", a set of 5 short songs for contralto, gamba, and keyboard, for Grayson. Performance of these songs occurred in March 2002.

matthew goodheart

matthew is an extremely well-respected cutting edge composer, receiving a great deal of positive attention in the modern music arena. He is an active member of the "matthew goodheart trio" and the "Tara Flandreau Quartet", and has been instructing at Mills College. Grayson recorded his song " An Ark or Lawrence Durrell" from the poetry of Robert Duncan, in February 1999.

His cd, "Songs from the Time of Great Questioning" [Meniscus (MNSCS 001)], consists of solo piano works recorded live at New Langton Arts, at the Bay area awards show, 1996. It was the Crew's Choice at Drimala in January 2000 and can be purchased at; Amoeba, Sam Goody, through Drimala , or from evolving door music .

Marcia Burchard
Marcia Burchard teaches at Dominican University. Her modal compositions are strongly influenced by Early Music. Grayson performed a set of previously conceived songs with the addition of "Say I am You", written for Grayson, from the poetry of Rumi in November 1998, at a fund raiser benefit for the Marin chapter of the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC).
Norman Masonson

Norman Masonson has conducted orchestras all over the world. Retired from teaching, he organises performances of modern compositions in Marin County, Ca. A composer in his own right, Grayson has performed his song, "The Whipped Gypsy", from the poetry of Garcia Lorca.

Christina Bradley

Christina Bradley is a pianist and composer. Grayson has performed 2 songs by Christina. For both, Grayson wrote the lyrics. One, "kann Ich einen helfen", a humorous short piece into the world of fast food, was performed in 1993. The second, "Love Found", from poetry written about the rediscovery of the passion of music, was performed in 1995.
