I'm not speaking here about the lame tentative to create a so-called local breed, that you do not see in Singapore anyway.
We will introduce here what are called the "drain cats". In all their beauty, glory and particularity.
Stray cats? Maybe...

ORIGINAL DRAIN CATS
The original Singapore cats are living in the drains of the city.
This way of living puts them more closely in contact with the humans than conventional organization of stray cats would have done.
The drains give them shelter, shadow, and some food. These drains, designed to evacuate the overflow of rain water during the equatorial rainfalls, are not to be confused with sewers. These drains are found in small streets and private houses as well, not only as big channels for roads and avenues.
Apart from the heavy mixing of cat types, normal in any stray cat colony, I could observe particularities in behavior: these local cats are definitely less aggressive than their European counterparts (but hey! in Europe cats were put close to extinction during the Middle Ages, due to vicious superstitions). They rarely gather in big groups and they share territories of a certain extent.
The excess of high rise buildings make difficult for some of these cats to keep their lifestyle. It's a pity because I'm convinced that they have developed a kind of social arrangement that is rare to observe, unless found in some remote and enclosed lands (as for instance on some Greek Islands).
I'm not an expert, but I'm sure there is something to learn there with the way the drain cats are organized.

In December 2000, Singapore Cats was selected by Study Web, specialists organization gathering in their Web site a list of sites of quality on subjects of interest which they select as suitable for schools, teachers and pupils. Each site is commented and rated.

THE SINGAPORE CATS in the press!
In their issue of Jan 98, 'The WEB', specialized monthly magazine, featured our Singapore Cats pages, giving it 4 stars (spiders, in fact!).
"Lots of nice photos of these unnoticed felines as they go
about their daily existence in hawker centres and under parked cars.A must for cat-lovers."
