After looking at the schedule, Janice quickly put away the timetable
and changed into her pyjamas. Before long, she was already snoring away on her
bed before you could say 'detention'.
"What are you doing here on such a beautiful night, Slayer?" The
Vampire whispered, its eyes smirking as he spoke.
Janice was about to run when the Vampire grabbed her right wrist. She tried
to wring it off, but it grew tighter and tighter each minute. Janice then took
her stake she was holding from the other hand and stabbed the Vampire, who gave
a loud cry and turned to dust.
When the Vampire had turned to dust, Janice fled from the forest. She ran and
ran, but she felt that there was something behind her. Turning around, she saw-
"Janice! JANICE! Wake up!" Landy was shrieking at the lifeless
body of Janice. What's wrong with Janice? Is she dead? She thought desperately.
Just then Janice screamed and sprang up from bed like a jack-in-a box, panting.
"Janice! Are you okay?" Landy screamed, rushing forward to hug Janice. Janice, however, was not aware of Landy hugging her. Suddenly, what she had dreamed earlier came flooding back to her. The Vampire, Stake, Sinister forest, Slayer...
"What is it, Landy?" She mumbled, still thinking about the dream. It was only then that she realised - almost the whole of CuiHua house and even Professor Lim was here.
"Are you all right, Miss Chan?" Professor Lim asked kindly.
"Yes, I'm fine, thank you." Janice replied weakly. She realised that she was covered in cold sweat and trembling as she spoke.
"I suggest that you should pay a visit to the hospital wing. Madam Wong, the Matron, she would be able to help you. Now, students, why don't you get out now? I think Miss Chan needs some fresh air." He said, his eyes smiling. With that, the students began to walk out of Janice's dormitory, except Lawrence, Boon Kee, Chee Hao, Zoya and Amelia who stayed behind.
"You gave us such a fright, Janice. You were screaming in your sleep and you kept on saying the word ' Vampire'. In fact, almost the whole of CuiHua house heard your screams. The prefect actually had to ask Professor Lim for help. Are you really okay?" Zoya said, her usual sparkly eyes clouded with worry.
"I'm fine, really." Janice replied weakly. She was about to raise her hand to run her fingers through her hair when everyone, including the boys, screamed.
"What?" Janice said, bewildered.
"Your wrist..." Amelia whispered.
When Janice lifted her wrist, she was shocked to see deep purple marks on it. The marks seemed to have taken the shape of a person's palm. The strangest thing was that the marks didn't seem to hurt at all.
"What did you do last night?" Boon Kee howled, shocked to
see the markings on the wrist.
"I don't know " She whispered." I went to bed, then I had a dream..." She said, without thinking.
"You had a dream? Why didn't you tell Professor Lim?" Lawrence roared.
"I don't know... I dreamt that I was walking in the Sinister Forest with a stake... I met with a Vampire... he called me a Slayer... he grabbed my wrist... I turned him into dust... then I ran and ran... and when I felt a presence following me... I turned around... and I woke up." Janice said monotonously, unaware that Landy and the rest were listening to her every word.
"He called you a Slayer..." Amelia trailed.
"I think you watched too much Buffy." Landy said crisply.
"No, Landy, this is serious. Slayers do exist in the wizarding world. Their
job is pretty much the same as Aurors but they are the Chosen Ones." Chee
Hao explained.
"The Chosen Ones?" Amelia repeated.
"Into each generation a Slayer is born. One girl in the entire world, a Chosen One. One born with the strength and skill to fight vampires, stop the spread of their evil and the swell of their numbers.
"For every vampire in the world, there is a Slayer. The Slayer Code is to destroy all vampires with the obligatory aid of super strength, fighting ability and an acute and intense gift of timing. Think of it as being bitten by a radioactive spider, minus the leotard. It's not only vampires, however, that these warriors have chosen the responsibility to annihilate. They also have to time-out demons, monsters and just about every other kind of nasty that can come to mind. When a Slayer times a creature out, it doesn't entail making them stand in a corner. Usually, the end result is a heinously bloody slaughter, sometimes accompanied by one of today's hottest bands. With the aid of a Watcher, who trains and looks out for each Slayer, these superhuman do-gooders have been known mostly to lurk in the shadows alone, following their prey - the bloodsucking undead. As you can imagine, these heroes have an unhealthy expiration date. Most don't live to see past 40." Lawrence explained.
"Oh my gosh..." Landy whispered.
"How did you guys know so much about Slayers?" Amelia asked.
"Well, almost everyone in the Wizarding family knows about them. Sometimes even Aurors have to consult the Slayers for help, you know." Boon Kee said.
As Janice listened to what they were talking about, weird thoughts were running through her mind. She? A Slayer? She can't even bear to kill an ant, let alone kill a Vampire. Why was she chosen?
