The next morning, Maron awoke
from her bed, and saw many other Growlbords sleeping
soundly in their beds. About two beds away, Maron spotted
Ranma Satome, a Growlbord quidditch player and the girl
whom Joey was in love with. She had long hair that was
always plaited with a few strands sticking out near
her face. She had soft blue eyes and fair skin. Next
to Ranma were her two friends, Zoe Friedman and Jessica
Zimmenski. Both had long hair as well, but Zoe would
always put hers in a bun, and Jessica's in a ponytail.
Further around the room, Maron spotted other girls.
Their names were engraved on the headboards. She found
Emma's bed, which was not far from hers. Emma was sound
asleep, and she's usually really grumpy in the morning.
So the only thing to do was to go down to the Growlbord
common room, a type of lounge area where only Growlbords
were allowed to hang around. There was one for every
house. She climbed down the winding staircase and into
the room, where she found Joey, Harry, and a few other
boys that Maron didn't notice earlier all sitting around
Yugi, and all of them oo-ing and ah-ing at his duel
monsters deck. "Hey
guys!" Maron said.
"Hey Maron." Yugi answered. "Come meet
some of the new people. Here, this is Billy and Willy
Robertson; they're twins, and this is Jeff McKenzie,
Greg Zindello, and Charles Desantegoe."
"Hey guys, I'm Maron Henderson." She replied.
"Hey Maron." They replied in unison.
"We're in our second year." Willy replied.
"And Charles, Greg, and I are all first years."
Jeff responded.
"I see. So, where are you all from?" She questioned.
"England." Willy and Billy answered.
"Same here." Jeff, Greg, and Charles answered.
"And you?"
"I come from Japan, like Yugi and Joey."
"Ah! You must be huge duel monsters fans?"
Willy questioned.
"Absolutely!" Said Yugi. "My grandpa
owns a game shop and sells loads of duel monster cards.
That's where I got my deck."
"I like both pokémon and duel monsters."
Maron replied. "I've never battled or dueled before,
but I'm sure I will enjoy it. Say Yugi, you never told
me your grandpa owned a gaming shop."
"He sure does! It's the only one in Diagon Alley.
I'm sure if you got your deck in the ally, then all
your cards are from my grandpa's shop."
"But then how come you never told me you knew about
duel monsters?"
"Well you see Maron, Joey and I come from families
that have wizard blood passed down generation to generation.
Your father, on the other hand, has no wizard blood
in him. Therefore, your mom told us to keep it a secret
from you. I hope you understand."
"Yeah. It's no biggie. I just feel a little
left out of things, you know?"
"I understand. I was like that too until my grandpa
told me about duel monsters. Say, how about we go
for a cup of tea. The great hall should be open by
now. Then we can clear things up down there, Maron.
What do you say? Just you and me."
"Alright. I'll give it a go." Maron and
Yugi both waved goodbye Jeff, Joey, Billy, Willy,
Charles, and Greg, and then they strode down to the
great hall for a cup of tea. When they got there,
the doors magically opened to show a hall. Only three
children were seated, drinking tea.
"I think this is the Growlbord table." Yugi
stated. So they both sat down. Yugi pulled out his
wand. "Teable!" He said. Just then, tea
appeared on the table. "Drink up!" Yugi
smiled.
"Thanks." Maron said. They drank their tea,
laughed and talked for a while. Then, their feelings
for each other deepened.
"Maron…" Yugi paused.
"Yes?" She really wanted to know what he
was going to say.
"You know, there usually about two to three balls
every year here at Hogwarts if I'm not mistaken."
"And…?"
"And, I was thinking, Joey likes Ranma a lot
right? So maybe, somehow, we could get Ranma to go
with Joey. You think?"
"It might work." And they both laughed.
"And another thing. I was also wondering…"
Yugi paused again.
"Just say it Yugi, I'm all ears."
"I was wondering if you would want to go to the
ball with me?" Yugi stared into his cup, as if
looking for an answer there.
"I'd give anything to go out with you!"
"You're serious?" Yugi questioned.
"Of course I am, Yugi."
"Alright then!" Yugi smiled and stood up.
"Now that you just made my day, we've got classes
to go to. Did you get your schedule off your bed?"
"Yep. What do you have first?"
"Care of creatures with professor Johnson. You?"
"Same. Let's go back to the common room and find
out what Joey and Harry have."
"Good idea."
They headed back through the twin doors and up the
stairs to where all the other Growlbords were. "Hey
guys! What do you all have first?" Yugi smiled
so widely that Maron could tell that he was really
happy that she was going to the ball with him.
"Harry and I have got Care of creatures. You
guys?" Joey asked
"Same. We should head out. I heard the caretaker
is really strict, and if he catches you late for class,
you're cooked." Yugi said.
"Alrighty. Let's walk down together." Joey
agreed. "All these classes sound pretty interesting,
don't you think? Care of creatures, commands, gym,
transfiguration, dueling, history, defense against
dark arts, pokémon battling and potions. They
all sound exciting."
So the four friends headed down the corridor and
outside to their first class at Hogwarts school of
witchcraft and wizardry.
