Good luck trying to catch these Pokémon! Each of the Dogs appears in a totally random place each time you go into a new area like a city. You will need to walk around until you see each Dog for the first time, then they will appear in your Pokédex Map so you can track them down! Even still they are nearly impossible to catch. They run after your very first attack, and will never fight you. However, if you do damage one of them, their HP remains unchanged the next time that you encounter them.

It is almost impossible to catch these Dogs, as you have to essentially GUESS as to where they will be the first time you meet them, and they move around like crazy and could be anywhere! The trick is, they only appear in the first world, they will fight you at random in the grass like a normal Wild Pokemon, they will not attack you, and they run after your first attack upon them. You MUST weaken them to catch them too, as they will ALWAYS be able to break free of even an Ultra Ball if not weakened. Status does not apply either, so you cannot put them to sleep. Once you meet one, you can use your Pokedex to track where it is, but every time you FLY, leave or enter a new Route or Town, or Route Station, they move again! They only go to Routes with small and single grass areas. Tracking them I have seen that they tend to hover around Routes 31, 33 - 37, and 43.

My trick has been to, after meeting one, track its location in the Pokedex, and keep entering and leaving areas until is appears on the Route I am currently on. Then I search the tall grass on that Route until attacked.

The Legendary Birds

Below the pictures tell you which
bird is easiest and first to catch
in which version

Gold Version - Houou

LUGIA (Silver Version)

You'll need a Pokémon with Surf, one with Whirlpool, and one with Flash to get to Lugia. Go to Asagi City and Surf South. Try to keep to the right as much as you can. There are 4 entrances to the cave where Lugia is hiding. You will want to enter the first one you come to while following the cliffs in. Once inside go to the right and choose the top path when it comes to a fork. Make your way to a waterfall and slide down it. Head Up from here and meet Lugia. Save before battling of course, as there is only one and you will want to catch it, not destroy it! Lugia is at Level 40 when you meet him.

LUGIA (Gold Version)

Go to Pewter City and find a man who will give you a Silver Feather. Take this Silver Feather to the same location Lugia is in the Silver Version. Lugia will be at Level 70!

HOUOU (Gold Version)

Go to Enjyu City and go into the house near to top of the city. Go in all the stairs and you'll eventually come to a tower. Before the entrance to this tower was blocked but now you may enter. Go inside and work your way to the roof where Houou awaits. SAVE before fighting Houou as there is only one in the game and you deffinately want to catch it, not destroy it! Houou will be at Level 40

HOUOU (Silver Version)

Go to Pewter City and find a man who will give you a Gold Feather. Take this Gold Feather to the same location Houou is in the Gold Version. Houou will be at Level 70!

The Baby (Pre-Evolution) Pokémon!

You will need 1 male and 1 female of each of these Pokémon. Then take them both to the Daycare Center/Breeding Center and give them to the old couple there. They will breed the Pokémon together and make a baby over time. The ones that yeild NEW Pre-Evolution  types are below.

Ultra Rare Pokémon

These are Pokémon you will only find one of in the game, or are super rare!

Lapras: You will find one Lapras in the cave between Kickyou City and Hiwanda City. Navigate through it to find a large open water space at a dead end. A lone Lapras will be swimming by itself there on Fridays only.

Togepi: After defeating the first Gym Leader go into Kickyou's PokéCenter. Talk to the Scientist at the counter and he will give you Togepi.

Baruki: Baruki is very well hidden in the mountain caves between Enju City and Choju City. Only bring 5 Pokémon with you or you won't be able to take Baruki. You will need Pokémon with Flash, Surf, Waterfall, and Strength to reach him. Surf beyond the first mountain cave East of Enju City and enter the middle one. You should see an Item Ball just to the right of the cave entrance. As soon as you enter, Surf to the right and go up the waterfall. Navigate the cave maze here through 2 more floors to reach a Karate Guy. Defeat him and he will give you Baruki!

Usokii: The Shaking Tree-Like thing in the middle of that 4-Way path on Route 26 is actually Usokii. Pour the Squirtle Water you get from the woman in Kogane on the tree. The tree will then attack you.

Snorlax: The sleeping Snorlax in Vermilion City in World 2 can be awakened by the Upgraded Radio Card from Lavender City. Just go into your GEAR and turn the frequency all the way to the top on your radio and talk to Snorlax. He will attack you.

Pokémon Captured From Trading!

There are many Pokémon that are acquired only by trading. Here are as many as I can find:
Aerodactyl: Trade a girl on Route 14 a Chansey for an Aerodactyl. Chansey can be found  in the grass the girl is standing in, but they are super rare!

Rhyhorn: Trade a girl in Fusube City a Dratini for a Rhyhorn.

Onix: Trade a guy in Hiwanda a Bellsprout for an Onix

Voltorb: Trade a guy in Asagi City a Krabby for a Voltorb

Evolution Trades

The following Pokémon can only be found by equipping certain Items to certain Pokémon and then trading them to another Gameboy. The trade will then cause the Evolution!

Porygon 2

199Yadoking.gif (2272 bytes)
Yadoking

Special Colored / Shiny Pokémon

The first Shiny Pokémon you find is the Golden Gyarados in the lake north of Choju City. In every area of the game, there is always a very tiny chance that you might be attacked by a super special Shiny Pokémon. They have STATS that are much better than the common-colored Pokémon of their breed. Shiny Pokémon will glitter when they first come up into battle, and will have 3 pluse signs to the right of their Gender Symbol in your Pokédex! These Pokémon count as EXTRAS in your Pokédex!

The Stone Evolutions and Where to Find the Stones!

Many of the Stones are found in one place: Bill's Grandfather's House! Bill's Grandfather's House is located in the Sea Cottage on Route 25. Note, once Bill's Grandfather has given you one of each Stone, he will never give you another Stone. I think this is unfair, as in the first games you could just buy as many as you pleased in order to create more evolutions.

Anyway, here's where and how to find all of the Stones!

Fire Stone - Show Bill's Grandfather a Growlithe on SUNDAY.
Water Stone - Show Bill's Grandfather a Staryu on MONDAY.
Leaf Stone - Show Bill's Grandfather an Oddish on THURSDAY.
Thunder Stone - Show Bill's Grandfather a Pichu on TUESDAY.
Unchange Stone - Show Bill's Grandfather a Lickitung on SUNDAY.
(Note: days may change from game to game. Just experiment by taking all 5 Pokémon at once if you have them all.)
Moon Stone - Route 27.
Sun Stone - You win this as 1st Prize in the Bug Catcher's Tournament.
Unknown Stone - You win this as 2nd Prize in the Bug Catcher's Tournament.

Pokémon evolved by Sun Stone:

Gloom - Kireihana
Himanattsu - Kimawari
