From My Heart
I thought, I loved, yet I was wrong.
For thought, however strong,
Is not the canvas love is painted on,
And love, however long, is never love,
If feelings are ignored and thought is put above.
No, love can never come from thought,
Just as trees will never grow from sand.
Or hearts will not be nourished
By words of careful choice,
Put higher than the words which scarcely need a voice
So simple, naturally you wait
And ask, but not with words,
For me to touch your heart and make you whole,
And thus with mystic spell to set you free
To scale the heights your love has longed to climb to me
And I cannot be seen to doubt
Though with awe my heart it trembles so
To stand before the gates of the sun.
Magic invocation,
Already on my lips, as from my heart I come.
