Let's learn the Chinese/Japanese numbers!

Here's the character for one (1).
In Japanese you say "ichi" and in Chinese it's "yi" with a high and level tone.

This is two (2).
In Japanese it's pronounce "ni" (remember one and two as itchy knee!) and Chinese is "er" with a sharp downward tone and your tounge kind of rolled back.

Three lines for three (3).
This one is easy, because in both Japanese and Chinese it is said "san." The tone is high and level in Chinese.

This is the character for four (4).
Four in Japanese is "shi" like english "she". In Chinese it is "si" with a downward tone, and you don't pronounce the i much.

Here's five (5).
Japanese pronounciation is "go" and Chinese is "wu" with a down-then-up tone.

Six (6).
This is said "roku" in Japanese. The "r" sound is between an l and an r. In Chinese it's "liu" with a downward tone.

This is seven (7). "Shichi" in Japanese or "qi" (q is pronounced like ch) with a high and level tone in Chinese.

Here is eight (8).
This is said "hachi" in Japanese and "ba" with a high and level tone in Chinese.

And finally, nine (9).
Say "kyu" for Japanese and "jiu" with an up-and-down tone for Chinese.

There, that wasn't so bad, huh? Practice on the counter at the bottom!
