The first time Slade kisses him, it tastes like blood and tears burn in his throat. The Titans are dead, and Robin doesn't work with Batman anymore, and Slade is all he has left.

Masks don't matter now.

Slade has a white beard and one grey eye and a strong face with a mobile mouth that smiles almost affectionately when Robin takes off his own mask.

"I thought you'd have blue eyes," Slade tells him quietly, and kisses him again.

The second kiss still tastes like blood. But he isn't crying anymore, and he doesn't say "Slade" when it ends.

"Master," he whispers against Slade's sticky-red mouth, and doesn't ask whose blood it is.
