In the year 2015, a young boy by the name of Ikari Shinji, arrived in Tokyo 3 just as the city was undergoing an emergency.
A mysterious gigantic being was approaching the city with seemingly hostile intentions. Despite the United Nations' military assaults, the seemingly invincible being was unharmed and retaliation was swift and true.
Just as he was at a loss on what to do next, Misato, his designated escort, arrived, and brought them both on a wild ride to NERV and at the same time avoid the current battle and the UN's inevitable use of the powerful NN landmine (similar to nuclear explosion).
They finally arrived at the underground headquarters of NERV, an undisclosed agency which had been preparing to face the threat of this mysterious being, known as 'Angel' since15 years ago. Ritsuko, the chief scientist, arrived to guide them to the heart of NERV.
Led by Ritsuko, Shinji came face to face with the reason his father had left him for -- human's ultimate weapon against the Angels -- EVA.
Shinji's father, Ikari Gendou, appeared. He told his son to pilot EVA-01 to fight the Angel. Shinji, angry at his father for having left him for 10 long years, refused to do so. Gendou coldly told his son to leave, and called for Rei. Rei, being seriously injured in an earlier accident, was pushed in on a bed.
Shinji was surprised at
this injured young girl being asked to fight the Angel.
Just then, the base was hit by the Angel and Shinji was
threatened by falling debris. In the nick of time, a giant
shadow moved and deflected the falling debris. All were
shocked to discover that it is the hand of the unmanned EVA-01.
EVA had chosen Shinji to be its pilot.
After a heated aguement, Shinji agreed to pilot EVA-01. As he sat in the pilot capsule, the NERV staff were astonished by the miraculous high level of synchronization between the untrained Shinji and EVA-01. EVA-01 was launched to the surface, where it came face-to-face with the being known as Angel...
