Chapter 3

Nathaniel sat down on the floor and gathered his thoughts. “Where to start? Where to start? Let’s start at the beginning, with Sinister.”

“Sinister’s big plan is to ensure that Apocalypse does not achieve dominion over this pathetic planet. That explains his interest in mutant bloodlines because he wants to produce an Omega mutant capable of taking out Apocalypse. Nathan Summers and Nate Grey are the end products of that idea. Fortunately, Sinister knew better than to put all of his eggs in one basket. He created a backup, using the genetic material from several mutants. That combination created the infant later known as Remy LeBeau. Leaving nothing to chance, Sinister tried to manipulate the baby’s mind and to mold it into a perfect assassin and warrior, answerable only to him. Even at that age, the baby was a survivor. The baby’s mind broke and different personalities emerged from the pieces.”

Nathaniel smiled coldly. “I am what Sinister wanted the child to become. An assassin and a cold-blooded killer, I am what we should have been.”

“How did Xavier find out about this. And why didn’t he tell us?” Marrow glared at Xavier. Xavier had no answer.

“After Remy came here with Stormy, Xavier offered him a place on the team. Initially, he said no. But Xavier knew that something was different. He offered to help us if we stayed. We took a poll and we agreed. We stayed and Xavier put blocks around the more temperamental personalities such as myself. He knew everything, including about the Massacre.”

Everyone glared at Xavier who looked unruffled. Xavier sighed. “When I spoke to Remy, I saw a scared young man losing control. Remy was not involved with the Massacre, other.. persons were involved and I saw no reason why I should blame an innocent person for the actions of others.”

Nathaniel shrugged. “When Xavier became Onslaught, Onslaught knew about us. And he also knew that if he could free some of us, we would agree to help him out. He breached the walls but he never made it all the way through. After Onslaught, I devoted my time to breaking the walls. Antarctica weakened them even further, and I managed to break out. The Guardian couldn’t contain us all, either could Remy.”

Xavier frowned. “Where are the others?” He tried to reach into Gambit’s mind but found only chaos. He sent a brief surge of power towards a familiar personality and prayed that it would work.

An unreadable look past over Nathaniel’s face, then something changed. Wolverine noticed that his scent was now uncaring and emotionless. Gambit’s eyes changed to a dark brown and he looked older. The voice was emotionless and calm. “Xavier.”

Xavier relaxed. “Silence, what happened?”

“Nathaniel had it right, except for one part. Remy, or the one you knew as Remy, is busy keeping some of the others in control. He wouldn’t be back for a while, or at least until the barriers get back up.” His brown eyes focused on Xavier. “This time, I doubt they’ll let you help.” Then he stopped, and scanned the room. “There is someone here. Isn’t that right, Essex.”

“Astute, Silence, I see that your powers are working.” The man known as Mr. Sinister stepped out from behind a sentinel head. “Remarkable how the human mind adapts. Normally, I would love to find out what mutant powers you have, but now, I want Nathaniel or Renegade.”

Silence tapped at the forcefield. “I don’t think that we are going anywhere. And after what you did to Michael and Kai, we’re staying here.”

“You’re going to wait for them to dump you in Antarctica again?” Sinister pointed out. Silence was silent. “It is more logical for you to come with me, when have I ever betrayed you?”

Silence raised an eyebrow. “What about the Massacre? We were hired to break into the mansion through the tunnels, which you insisted on. You sold us out and sent the Marauders after us.”

“You weren’t supposed to get hurt.”

“Someone in here blamed himself for the Massacre. Even if we wasn’t there, you would have sent them anyway.” Then Silence frowned and clutched his head. He hissed in pain and hunched over. When he stood up, someone else was there.

Dark green eyes stared coldly at Sinister, a contrast to the carefree grin on his face. “De others say dat y’ wanted t’ talk t’ me?”

“Renegade?” Seeing the young man nod. “What..” Sinister was slammed into the wall by a left hook from Rogue.

“Swamp rat’s not leaving with yah.” Rogue hissed. The rest of the team got ready to rush Sinister.

Sinister got up and opened a tesseract. “I can wait. Renegade, think on my offer.” He walked through it.
