Growing up

Chris: Look - she stands. She can't walk yet, but if you stand her up, she can stand and giggle at you for a while, which is all too cute. On the down side, standing up means you can fall down - which she does a lot of. Usually leading with her face into something hard and wood. It's good she learns the pain of failure early - it will make her strong.

An early glimpse at politics. She watched all three debates with us. Lucky for her, she didn't understand any of it - spared her the rage. She is also feeding herself these days. Give her something, and she puts it in her mouth. She's not picky, it doesn't even have to be food. Paper, rocks, shoes, just about anything will do.
And she likes to mess around in the cabinets. We decided not to child proof them - we just made sure there wasn't anything dangerous down there, and we let her dig around in the pots and pans while Shizuka cooks.

Pumpkin Carving

Chris:  We had some friends over to carve Halloween pumpkins. You might guess I did the one in the middle. I was tempted to throw them in the street after Halloween, just like old times, but then I realized that I am old enough that I would feel like I should clean up the mess. Man, getting old sucks.

We had a lot of friends over - and made a lot of mess. But the carpets here are pretty scroungy anyway, so no big deal. One of our friends even had the bright idea to use a cordless drill to carve the pumpkin with. Worked great - but cleaning the drill will be a trick...

Everybody hard at work. Note Obara-san has two pumpkins. She does nothing halfway. Nothing.
