First Steps

静香:朝陽が歩きました~。クリスがちょうど彼の両親と電話で話している時に朝陽を歩かせようと至近距離に立たせたところ、いきなり歩き始めたのでした。ビデオを見たい方はここをクリックしてください。

Chris: The child walks. As all my friends with children tell me "Now the real fun begins." She can still only take little baby steps, but it is a start, and more importantly, she is pretty excited about her walking, which means she'll probably practice a lot. The biggest change seems to be that she now has about one foot more reach than she had before, which makes things a bit more exciting, indeed.

By the way, through the miracles of modern technology, we have the event online, on video. I was talking to my father and step-mother on the phone at the time, so please don't hate me for not hanging up the phone when Saya was taking her first steps, her grandparents were on the phone and they were just as excited about it as me. Well, almost. Clicking here will let you see a video of her walking.

I have changed my Journal - I am now using the LiveJournal for keeping a journal, and am trying to be more frequent in my posting. It is a sort of informal place for me to put thoughts. Please feel free to click on the "Christopher's Journal" link on the left to see - it gets updated every couple of days, hopefully. It also has a place for you to leave comments, should you choose.

感謝祭
The family comes for Thanksgiving

Chris: Look - a big dead bird. It tasted good, but the sight of this big dead animal in my kitchen in this picture makes me want to be a vegetarian. It was the first turkey I ever cooked, and quite honestly, it was the juiciest turkey I have ever seen - the juice in the bottom looked like soup. It was like we boiled the bottom side of it. Go figure.
Saya is finally getting used to my dad. It's the beard. It was suggested that we take her to visit Santa, but if a little beard like that freaks her out, Santa is going to be like Freddy Krueger. I think Dad's probably Santa enough for this year. And, as always, she is having a great time playing with Val.

Everyone having a good time at Gasworks park. They said it would rain all weekend. They lied, it was beautiful almost every day my family was here. Then the rain came back the day they left. It is colder in this picture then it looks. Trust me.

BTW: Note Shizuka's mother in the picture. She came out a few days before my parents, and will be here until the 7th, when she and Saya and Shizuka will go back to Japan for the New Year. I'll be flying out on the 18th to join them.

At the Chittenden Locks. It is really cold out on that concrete dam, but seeing the boats was a good time. Why is it every time I see boats I want to go somewhere? I used to get that feeling at airports, and then I had a few flights from Europe to Japan. That'll cure anyone of flying.

You ever notice that pictures of Seattle look like they are almost in black and white. It's like they made the whole city with the colors green, grey, and blue. Luckily I like those colors. This is the beach at Carkeek park - one of dozens of parks all over Seattle. Honestly, city planners worldwide should be forced to come up here and see how to build a city properly. Every time I leave the house, I am more impressed with this town. Now if they just had a decent subway.

On Sunday morning we all went out for dim-sum (Chinese breakfast). For those who have never had dim-sum, you must try it. It's like tapas with chicken feet and shrimp-balls.

BTW: For those in Seattle, we suggest China Gate on 6th. Good food, friendly people, free parking.

And it wouldn't be Thanksgiving weekend without decorating the tree. Yes, we know it's a dinky little tree, but putting it on the table keeps the tree off the ground where Saya can't get at it and try to eat it. Those with children understand this concern. The completed tree. Notice the well positioned plug that Saya need only grip firmly to tear the whole thing to the ground. I give her a week.
