Do you feel that the gear stick "throw" on your 206 is way too long?  Well...there's an answer for your problems but are you willing to spend money to fix a problem that Peugeot should of corrected before it was actual in production.  Maybe Peugeot feels that the "throw" from the gear shift is normal for this car.  I have spoken and seen many people on the net complain about this problem.  I did some searching for any company which produced or marketed a short shift kit or close ratio gearbox.  At first I was very interested in the WRX gearbox so I went about searching for Xtrac.

Gear ratios for the 206GTi as below for your reference.
3.46:1 (1st)
1.87:1 (2nd)
1.36:1 (3th)
1.05:1 (4th)
0.86:1 (5th)

Online Tuning quick shift

The above bracket (right) is a direct replacement quick shift for the OE part.  Fitting of the part is straight forward and will produce you with the shortest gear change "throw" out of all quick shift kits available.  However, the gear change will feel notchy and tight but will wear slightly.  A problem was found with this part that when in 3rd gear the linkage which is attached to the top pivot point will hit the gearbox casing.  This quick shift is the cheapest so far and is in use by several 206GTi owners.  In the above picture the top pivot point has had additional welding for reinforcement.

GTi Engineering

A HK based company in HK has a short shift kit for the 206GTi for around HK$3000.  I personally have test driven a car with this modification and found that the "throw" was indeed reduced by around 40% - 50%.  Gear change was not as smooth as I would of like it to be but maybe it needed to be run in more as the modification was new.  Further updates later.

Dear Jim,

Your enquiry came to us via MAPS who are a software supplier to Xtrac.  Our own e-mail address is sales@xtrac.com  or direct e-mail to individuals.  As shown below.  For reference, our own web site is at www.xtrac.com.

With regard to the Peugeot 206 wrc gearbox, we were commissioned by Peugeot Sport in Paris to design, develop and manufacture a transmission system For their World Rally Cars.  Peugeot funded the project and retain Exclusive marketing rights for the transmission system. You will need to contact them for more information, but I do not think they are available for general sale at this time.

Be prepared for a cost of approximately Ł 52,000.00 plus the control systems which are needed.  Unfortunately the transmission will only fit into the factory version of the world rally car - so you will probably need the chassis as well !!   With regard to the gear change 'throw', this is determined by the ratio of the gearlever fulcrum to the gear knob against the fulcrum distance to the operating rod.  To change this on the standard system would involve extensive engineering.  We can offer an in-car lever assembly which is used by several rally teams and would reduce the throw, but the materials used (magnesium and titanium) in the manufacture add to the cost of the assembly which is Ł2,111.59.   This would need additional work to mount it in to the car and connect the gear linkage.  TX lever picture HERE

There are other manufacturers who produce lower cost gearbox modifications for the 206.  Peugeot Sport Boutique retails many parts for these cars and Avanti Motorsport Engineering advertise close ratio gearkits, and limited slip differentials.  Addresses follow:
