Gas pedal adjustments:

The height of the accelerator (gas) pedal may be a bit high for some drivers.  Also the height has caused difficulties for some drivers in who use hoe/toe techniques.  At first the height of my accelerator was parallel to that of the brake pedal.  So after reading a posting on the yahoo message board regarding a simple adjustment to the "M" clip which holds the throttle cable.  I decided to have a go myself and see how much difference it would make.

The position of the "M" clip is found on the top side of the engine area.  It's not hard to find the silver clip that holds a ribbed black plastic rod.  The OE setting is around the 14th ridge on the ribbed rod.  As stated by Matthew's posting any setting above the 10th ridge will not you to apply allow full throttle.  I have yet to try the setting above the 10th ridge, will keep everyone posted to the results, who knows maybe I can it a  bit lower and still have full throttle.

To make sure that full throttle can be achieved after you have adjusted your "M" clip.  This was done by me flooring the car in 1st and 2nd until the fuel cut off, all the way to 6,500rpm.  Even though the height adjustment may not be very substantial for some, the change in position of my ankle has made driving the 206 much more comfortable.  Before my ankle was angled in such a way that it would hurt after 30mins or so driving.

If you really need a lower height of the gas pedal you may take it to a workshop who will professionally modify the pedal but for a price!

Matthew's posting to the Yahoo message board:

Hi,
The same height of brake and gas pedal had started bothering me some time now since the 1st service by LM as I mentioned before. The C & D Magazine June issue did not really give the adjustment details. Also I think C & D did make a wrong statement. They were saying that the problem was caused by too low position of the gas pedal.  However we all know that what makes heel & toe difficult in this car is the too high position of the gas pedal when brake pedal was pressed!
I think I just found the simple trick to lower the gas pedal with reference to the brake pedal (by some 1 to 2 cm). After you open the bonnet, you will find a 'M'-shaped grey clip is fixed at a grooved rubber holder for the accelerator cable just in front of the engine (on the black plastic cover above the intake manifold). The 'M' clip should be originally sitting at the 14th / 15th groove (counted from the top) of the plastic holder. By refixing the 'M' clip to 10th / 11th groove, the gas pedal will be lowered by about 1 cm.
You can actually lower the gas pedal further by up to about 3 cm by refixing the 'M' clip higher up (anywhere above the 10th groove). However throttle valve can not be fully opened even the gas pedal is fully pressed if you do it in this way.
Hence I recommend to refix the 'M' clip at the 11th groove by which the throttle valve can be just fully opened when the gas pedal is fully pressed (now it rests on the floor so the least tension is in the accelerator cable but originally it is not). By doing this, a free play of about 1 cm is produced at the gas pedal. But I think this free play will not have any bad influence anyway to the normal operation although you can try to eliminated the free play by sticking a padding to the gas pedal rod...
Now the gas pedal is some 1 cm lower than the brake pedal at their natural positions (which was the case of my car before the 1st service by LM). But some may think it is still not good enough for easy heel & toe. So to make a larger height difference between the gas and brake pedal, I think this time you can try rising the brake pedal (by 0.5 cm maybe) by putting something (with a thinkness of about 0.5 cm) under the alloy bit of the brake pedal.
By doing all these I think it will be just fine for heel & toe.
Cheers
Matthew.
