F A Q
This page is a collection of my own questions and answers that I have found out myself along with other useful information. If you should have a specific question, you may email me and I will post a reply on this page. (That's if I can find the answer, if it ain't here, I don't know!) Some of the replies may only concern the HK community.
Q. Can the 205, 306, 406 and other Peugeot models join "Club 206"?
A. All Peugeot car models may join "Club 206". They must be able to accept the name of "Club 206", this was used as the 206 range was the first ever model to establish a club.
Q. What engine oil should I be using?
A. I myself had my first oil service at 1,200km. I am now using Mobil 1 Gold at 0W-40 but I have been told that using 5W-40 will keep the temperature down more.
Q. When should I service my car?
A. There have been debates on this issue. LM has told other 206 owners different stories varying the KM for the first oil change and service intervals. When I checked my dip stick it was full of small metal particles so I had it changed asap at 1,200km. Service intervals at 10,000km and oil changes at 5,000km sound okay to me.
Q. What pressure should I be running my tires at for front and rear?
A. I do not follow factory recommendations but trial and error by myself. I test to see which pressure would be suit my own style of driving. At this time I am running 30psi for both front and rear.
Q. What tires or wheel size should I use?
A. I feel that the 206 should of come standard with at least some decent 16" alloys. The OE 15" wrapped in P6000 are good for normal driving but when you push them hard. They don't hold on to the road as well as low profile tires and the sidewall is just too fat for me! That's why some 16" with some S-02PP 195/45 would go down a treat, less sidewall flex and plenty of grip with those tires. You could even go with 205/45 for more grip but you will have to sacrifice some speed for that.
Q. How low can I lower my car?
A. The first SP kit had lowering springs of -25mm but were recalled due to safety issues. I first concerned -25mm springs but seeing other 206's on the road, I would say that -40mm is still reasonable enough not to spoil the ride quality. Anything lower than -40 would most likely be uncomfortable and could cause your car to bottom out.
Q. Should I change the air filter?
A. A replacement filter element will let the engine breath easier, performance gains would be very minimal if any at all. You can go all the way and use an induction kit like the K&N 57i which gives out a beefy induction noise at high revs.
Q. Change exhaust system?
A. I would personally only change the back box on the car as the OE pipe is good enough for the small increase in power. Full exhaust systems are not cheap but would go with other engine mods very well. Magnex, Supersprint and Devil do exhausts for the 206GTi in styles varying from circle, oval to twin. Also available are DTM style but not to my taste.
Q. How do I remove the front seats?
A. The front seats are removed by unscrewing four T-40 screws. Remember to unplug the airbag cable underneath before you pull the seat away.
Q. How do I remove the rear seats?
A. There are four bolts in total holding the back rest in position. Once removed they will come out with ease.
Q. How do I change the alloy fuel cap?
A. The "206GT" alloy fuel cap is just a replacement cover. The OE lock part is unscrewed from the plastic cover and then just screwed back on to your lovely alloy fuel cap.
