Growing up as the baby girl with three older brothers is awesome! And Corey Rueckheim is one of the best brothers a girl could have.
Corey is always so nice to me. I remember a time in elementary school that some other kids were bullying me on the playground. Corey came to my rescue and not only talked them out of bullying me but also talked them into playing with me. When I was in junior high Corey, who was a senior then, asked me to go with him and a few others to see the airshow in Oshkosh. But by far the most impressive was when he let me tag along with him and his date to prom. I don’t think either of my other brothers would have tolerated that.
One of Corey’s biggest loves is astronomy. I remember him getting an interest in it after the minister of our church started pointing things out in the sky to him. After that Corey has always told us when eclipses or meteor showers are going to happen. Every time there was a meteor shower my family would bring blankets out to front yard and we would all lay on our backs and see who could count the most falling stars. I loved those nights. Another time I remember Corey bringing his telescope to school and the teachers let us all go outside so he could teach everyone about sun spots.
Corey is always learning new things and then teaching them to whoever will listen. Corey used to build things with Lego’s and tear apart tiny engines just so he could learn how to put them back together. And now he has his pilot’s license. Before I was ten Corey had taught me how to write simple programs to run on an Apple II computer. When I was in my late teens he taught me how to write my own webpages using HTML. I remember him reading Einstein’s book of Relativity. I was a little nervous then. :) Corey always had the patience to teach me things though.
Now Corey has Noah to work with. Noah is becoming a very smart little boy with his Dad’s patient hand guiding him. We are all very proud of him. And Corey & Becky are as proud as any parents could be.
Corey was the happiest I had ever seen him though when he met and married Becky. And his happiness doubled when they had Noah. Those three need each other. Corey loves Becky and been there for her throughout her illness.
