Misunderstandings

Part 4

by Blue Violet

In the cafeteria, Trowa was nearly giving up on his quest to find an unoccupied table or at least and unoccupied chair when he saw Adam waving at him to get his attention. Trowa waved back at his new friend and wove his way through the crowd to get to his friend.

"Hey Trowa!" greeted Adam cheerfully. "I saw you looking quite lost in the midst of the crowd. Why don't you sit here?" Adam gestured to several empty seats byt the table he was sitting at. "My other friends will be back in a few minutes - they're all getting their lunch. Don't worry, they're all really cool and I'm sure they'll like you."

Trowa sat down on one of the unoccupied chairs gratefully as he listened to Adam's string of nonstop chatter. 'This guy talks like Duo,' he thought with a secret smile. 'I bet if Duo ever met Adam, the rest of us will go deaf from listening to their endless chatter.'

"Hey Trowa. Aren't you eating anything?" asked Adam. "Don't tell me that you're on a diet - no wonder you're so thin!"

"No, of course I'm not on a diet!" protested Trowa with a laugh. "Only girls go on diets. Actually, I'm not really hungry."

"So? Are you going to just sit there and watch me and the rest of the guys eat?" asked Adam. "Here, why don't you have some of my food." Adam passed Trowa a bag of potato chips and some chocolate and candy bars he produced from his pocket.

"Now, this is what I would call real food," said Adam. "The food they serve here... well, not that it tastes gross but I can't stand healthy food, you know? I'm a junk food junkie. Can't live without junk food!"

"Well, thanks for sharing your food with me," said Trowa as he ripped open the bag of potato chips.

"Hey, no problemo," said Adam breezily. "Anything for a friend."

"You know, you're just like this friend I know," said Trowa. "It's a good thing there's someone just like him here. It's very comforting to know a friendly face around here."

"Maybe you should introduce me to you friend," suggested Adam. "We'll have tonnes of stuff in common and I'll bet we'll have loads of fun."

Suddenly, Adam froze and quickly recovered by flashing a big, friendly smile at someone behind Trowa. Trowa turned around to see who Adam was smiling at.

"Hello," said Katrina also Quatre in a pleasant voice. "May I sit here?"

"Sure, why not?" said Adam with a smile. "You're free to sit anywhere you like. I was just going anyway."

"Huh? Where are you going and what about your friends?" asked Trowa, surprised that Adam was leaving so soon.

"Oh, they have something to do, too," said Adam, still smiling. Then he leaned close to Trowa and whispered in his ear, "It's OK, my friends and I'll go sit somewhere else. And you owe me big time for this you know! I'm just trying to help you get Katrina seeing that you have the hots for her and besides, I think she likes you, too."

Trowa just stared at Adam with his mouth agape. So that's what Adam was planning to do - leave him and Katrina all alone at that table. Now the whole school would probably think that he and Katrina were an item!

"Well, I'd better go now. Bye!" said Adam cheerfully and waved a little before he dissapeared into the crowd.

Quatre sat down opposite Trowa and smiled at him. "Nice friend you got there," he commented. "He's very friendly."

"Why are you sitting here?" asked Trowa. "Wouldn't it be suspicious if people saw us together?"

Quatre laughed. "Why would they? To them, we're just a boy and a girl having lunch together. Not as Gundam pilots and definately not as two boy lovers."

"Of course I know that," said Trowa hastily, blushing a little. "It's just that I was thinking, wouldn't they think it is weird that two new kids who have never spoken to each other before are suddenly having lunch together?"

"I don't see what's so weird," said Quatre, shrugging his shoulders. "If it were me, I would just think that we're hanging out together cos as new kids, we have to stick with each other. Other than that, maybe I'm just a very friendly person."

"So, why aren't you with your new girl friends, anyway?" asked Trowa. "Didn't you have fun talking to them?"

"Not really," admitted Quatre ruefully. "They were talking about make-up and clothes. Good thing I have a lot of sisters or else I wouldn't know what to say to those girls. And they talked a lot! More than what Duo would speak in a day. And they kept talking about you."

"Oh? And what did they say about me?"

"They were talking about how good-looking the new boy was and what a really cool hairstyle he has," said Quatre. "I really must keep an eye on you. Who knows, I might lose you to another girl at this school," added Quatre with a sigh.

"Oooh, no wonder Quatre kept sneaking looks at me during classes," thought Trowa. "He was trying to make sure I wouldn't fall into the clutches of a different girl."

"Jealous?" Trowa asked Quatre in a teasing tone.

"Of course not!" said Quatre hotly, his cheeks aflame. "If anything, those girls should be the ones who are jealous of me. After all, I'm the one who has you and not them."

"Do you know how cute you look when you're angry?" teased Trowa.

"Nooo... but do you know how cute you'll look with a slap mark on your face if you make me really angry?" shot Quatre. "That will make all the girls run away from you!"

Suddenly a shadow loomed over them. It was Kevin and his group of followers. "Hello Katrina. Hey, Trowa. Didn't know you were all ready trying to get your hands on Katrina," said Kevin. "Just dropping by to ask if you have considered my offer."

"I still haven't thought about it yet," said Trowa in a monotonous voice. "I'll let you know when I have all ready made a decision."

Kevin just nodded his head absently. Actually, he was looking at Quatre with an intense look in his eyes mixed with lust. Trowa caught the look and felt a funny feeling in the pit of his stomache. What Trowa felt was jealousy growing inside of him.

"Nobody looks at my Quatre that way other than me," he thought hotly. Trowa hoped that Kevin and his goons would just get lost. He didn't want to have somebody like Kevin near his precious angel.

But of course, that didn't happen.

"Hey, Katrina. Why don't you and me hang out together this afternoon after school?" Kevin said to Quatre in his macho voice. "We can hang out in my room, do some stuff..." This he said in a suggestive tone. Trowa felt like killing Kevin.

"I'm sorry but I all ready promised some friends that I'll be spending my afternoon with them," said Quatre politely in a feminine voice. "I'm really sorry."

"Yeah, well. Maybe some other time then?" said Kevin in a hopeful- sounding voice. Then he waved at Quatre and left the table with his goons right behind him.

"Your friend?" asked Quatre. "He looks very handsome."

"He is NOT my friend and I hope that you will stay away from him," said Trowa, controlling his anger towards Kevin.

"Why? Are you jealous that he asked me out?" asked Quatre innocently.

"No. I just don't like that guy - he's not a nice person so I hope you'll try to keep your distance with him."

Quatre wanted to know why Trowa was telling him to do that and Trowa told him everything about what Adam had told him and the conversartion he heard in class between Kevin and his followers.

"I'm just afraid that he might do anything to you cos he thinks you're a girl," said Trowa. "And I think he likes you so he might just try anything to get you." "You don't have to worry about me, Trowa," said Quatre assuringly. "I know how to take care of myself. I'm a boy and a Gundam pilot - an ordinary boy like him won't cause me any trouble."

Quatre said that confidently but Trowa couldn't help feeling a flicker of worry. "I hope you're right, angel."

"Hey, Trowa!" said Adam, clapping a hand on Trowa's back. "How was your lunch date with Katrina?"

"Very funny. It wasn't a lunch date and you know it," said Trowa.

Lunch was over a few minutes ago and the two boys were in the boys' bathroom, washing their hands and combing their hair.

"You know, just now I was passing Kevin and his friends in the hall and I heard him talking to them about your having lunch with Katrina," said Adam softly in case anybody heard him which was impossible because they were the only ones there. "Well, he seemed kind of mad cos he thought that you were trying to tackle Katrina and because he thinks that you might be competition. And he was pissed because Katrina didn't accept his invitation to spend the afternoon with him."

"..."

"If I were you, I'd be careful around him," continued Adam. "You never know what he may do just to get what he wants."

It was all ready after school. Trowa was walking towards his room when he met Kevin walking all by himself towards his own room. Trowa walked towards Kevin.

"Kevin, I have all ready made a decision," said Trowa.

"You're joining us, right?" asked Kevin with a lazy smile.

"No. I have decided not to join you and your group."

"Why not?"

"You and your friends aren't the type of people I would rather hang out with."

"Nobody has ever pushed away my offer to join my group," said Kevin with sudden coldness. "Obviously you think you're hot stuff, eh?"

Trowa said nothing.

"And obviously you think you're Mr. Cool cos you got to have lunch with the school belle, Katrina," said Kevin. "Well, you're dead wrong. You're nothing but a wimp. And you're dead wrong if you think that you're gonna get Katrina. I know that you have eyes only for her, too. Well you can count yourself out of the running cos I'm gonna bet her. And I will make her mine." With that Kevin stormed off.

Trowa nearly laughed out loud when Kevin had declared that he will make Katrina his. "You will never get her because she is Quatre and Quatre is all ready mine," he thought. "And Quatre will never fall for you."

Trowa remembered what Adam had told him in the bathroom. He had told him to be careful of Kevin. Well, he wasn't worried about Kevin hurting him - in fact it should be the other way around because Trowa knew that he could kill Kevin if he wanted to. He was only worried about Quatre. What if Kevin... no! He didn't want to think about that. What was important was that he would have to keep an eye on his blonde Arab.
