I stood for a long moment, rooted to my place in the middle of the kitchen. My lips still tingled slightly from the feel of Trowa's mouth. He had kissed me. Did that mean that he loved me too? But he was gone. Right out the door. Just like that. And I had let him go.
"Did I miss something?" Duo asked. I ignored him.
"Oh god, Trowa," I murmured. I had to stop him. There was still a chance. I ran out the door. "Trowa!!!" I shouted. He didn't turn around, just kept on walking.
No, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was letting the one good thing I had slip through my fingers. I ran faster, and finally caught up to him. He spun around, pulled me close, and kissed me so hard I almost fell down. Pure elation raced through me.
"You have to understand, Quatre," he whispered in my ear. "I don't deserve you. At all," he added, perhaps to let me know he was serious. I put my arms around his neck.
"What makes you say that, Trowa?" I asked. "I'm the one who doesn't deserve you." He looked down at me, shock wiping over his face.
"Why do you say that, Quatre?"
"Because it's true," I told him, my eyes meeting his.
"You're just saying that." He pulled away and started to walk off towards his truck. I stood shocked for a minute.
"Please, Trowa," I said softly, after I found my voice again. "Just- just let me love you."
"You don't love me, Quatre. You just think you do."
"Why do you have to make this so difficult?" I asked, starting to feel a little frustrated. "I mean, do you love me, Trowa?" He paused and turned around, looking anywhere but at me.
"Quatre yes. Yes, I love you."
"You see? Then how difficult can it be? I love you, and you love me, so why can't we just be together?" "Quatre, everyone.."
"No, Trowa, listen! This isn't about anyone but you and me. Just tell me, Trowa. Tell me why we can't be together." He finally met my gaze, his intense eyes burning into my soul. And then I saw something that filled me with joy. A tiny smile was forming at the corners of his mouth.
Trowa rarely smiled, but now he was smiling at me. For me? I wasn't sure.
"You never give up, do you?" he asked, his smile widening. I blushed a little and smiled back as he walked over to me. "Not.. not when it comes to you," I murmured, not sure what I was saying anymore. "I can't let the person who matters to me the most walk away, and not try to stop you." Trowa was standing before me now, and our eyes locked.
He extended open arms to me, and I fell into his embrace.
"Quatre," he whispered softly, stroking my hair.
