What Happens Now?

Part 7

The night had gone by very quietly. Kay hadn't woken anyone up. Mainly because Kai brought Kay into her room. No one could know if Kay was awake or not. Everyone managed to sleep peacefully for once. Heero was some what pleased that the night was quiet. It gave him some time to be with Duo.

Heero woke up early so he could watch Duo sleep. The braided man looked so peaceful as he slept. Heero pulled Duo close to him, hoping that the world would spare his braided lover from death. Duo slowly opened his eyes and smiled up at Heero.

"Morning Heero. You're up early today." Duo said. Heero kissed Duo on his forehead.

"Well, I was able to sleep last night. I didn't hear Kay cry or anything." Heero said. Duo smiled and kissed Heero's lips.

"Maybe Kai took care of her." Duo said. Heero nodded and kissed Duo back. Suddenly their tongues were exploring each other's mouth. It had been awhile since they had some time alone together. Just as they were about to go further, there was a knock on the door. Duo grumbled and got up.

"Perhaps you should put some clothes on, baka." Heero said. Duo looked down and noticed that Heero's hands had worked faster today. Duo glared at Heero and quickly dressed. Heero pulled himself out of bed. Duo walked over to the door and opened it. There was no one at the door.

"Daddy!!" Someone said. Duo looked down and saw Kay standing up on her feet. She took another step towards Duo. "Daddy!!"

"Huh?" Heero asked as he walked over to the door. Kay walked towards Heero.

"Heero!!" Kay said. Heero paused. This child was barely a month old and she was walking and talking. Duo picked up Kay.

"Wow. You can talk. Can you say something else?" Duo asked. Kay smiled and clapped her hands.

"What's going on?" Wufei asked as he walked by Duo's open door.

"Uncy Wufei!" Kay laughed. Duo laughed with her. Wufei looked at the little girl.

"What did you say?" Wufei asked.

"Uncy Wufei!" Kay said. Wufei stood in shock. Then Trowa bumped into him.

"Wufei. You shouldn't stand in the middle of the hallway." Trowa said.

"Uncy Trowa!!" Kay laughed. Trowa looked straight at the laughing child. He shook his head. He could have sworn that Kay had said something.

"What's going on here?" Quatre asked as he stood behind Trowa. Kay giggled and jumped out of Duo's hands. She walked over to Quatre and pulled on his pants. Quatre looked down at Kay.

"Pick me up, Uncy Katre!" Kay said. Quatre bent down and picked Kay up.

"So you can talk now?" Quatre asked. Kay nodded.

"I know how to talky now." Kay said.

"Of course you do. You kept me up all night with your jabbering. I starting to regret asking Duo to be your father." Kai said as she joined the group.

"You mean she was talking last night?" Duo asked. Kai nodded and took Kay from Quatre.

"She's worst than you, Duo. I told her to go to sleep and then she started to talk in Japanese. Thank you very much, Heero. Then she went off talking so kind of gibberish about some show she saw on tv. It was about two hours ago, she finally went to sleep." Kai said.

"Well, why don't you go back to sleep, Kai? We'll take care of her today." Quatre said. Kai shook her head.

"I'm not quite sure you really want to do that. She talks way too much. If you thought she was......" Kai said. Trowa picked her up and carried her to her room.

"You're going back to sleep." Trowa commanded. He placed Kai in her bed and closed the door behind him. Kai pouted for a moment and then she went back to sleep.

Kai slept for most of that day. It seemed like Kay had kept her up late talking about whatever. It was amazing that a child of Kai's would be so loud, but then Kay is Duo's daughter. Which would explain alot of things. The guys tried their hardest to keep Kay's attention occupied. It was a hard thing, but they managed to do it.

Wufei, with Trowa's help, tried to teach Kay how to play chess. It didn't quite work. The game dealt with too much thinking and not enough noise. Duo sat down with her and they watched tv, but she soon became bored and started to ramble on in different languages.

Heero managed to talk her into going to the park. He showed her how to play on the equipment that was there. He had gone to watch her play, but she managed to get him to play with her. It was amazing how Kay would manage to get Heero to do things with her. It was almost as if she wanted him to be her father.

"Hello Heero." Someone said. Heero turned from the sandcastle that he and Kay were making together. There stood Relena Peacecraft.

"Hello Relena." Heero said quietly. Kay stood up and walked over to Relena.

"Who are you, Ma'am?" Kay asked quietly. Relena looked at the small, red haired, violet eyed, girl.

"My name is Relena Peacecraft. What's your name?" Relena asked. Kay bowed, knowing that Relena was a princess and knowing that it a sign of respect.

"My name is Kathlene Dianna Maxwell. It's nice to meet you." Kay said. Heero shook his head. He had no idea that Kay was so polite.

"It's nice to meet you too." Relena said. Kay smiled and shyly walked behind Heero. Heero knew that she wasn't a shy person, but then he noticed who was behind Relena.

"Hello Heero." Millardo Peacecraft said as he joined them. Kay pulled on Heero's shirt.

"Who's that?" Kay whispered. Heero turned his head slightly.

"That's Millardo Peacecraft." Heero whispered back. Before Kay was about to go running around, screaming at the top of her longues, Heero covered her mouth and picked her up.

"Heero?" Relena asked. Heero forced a smile on his face. He should have known that Kay would have been told about Millardo. She is of course her mother's daughter.

"Um, it's about time that we go home now, Kay. I wish I could stay and talk, but her mother and father will be worried if we don't go back now." Heero said. He quickly turned and ran out of the park. When they were at the door of Duo's house, Heero put Kay down.

"I'm sorry, Heero. I didn't mean to freak out like that." Kay said. Heero shook his head.

"It was my fault. I should have known that your mother would have taught you about your people's past. Just don't tell your mother or father what happened today, ok? Lets just keep it between us." Heero said. Kay nodded.

"Okey, Heero. It's just between us." Kay said. Heero smiled and picked up Kay. Then the two of them walked into the house.

"Heero! What did you do to her? She's got sand in her hair." Kai said as she saw them walk in.

"We went to the park and made a sandcastle, Mommy." Kay said. Heero nodded.

"Well, I guess I'll have to give you a bath again. Why can't you stay clean for one day?" Kai said. Heero laughed.

"Don't worry about, Kai. Since it was my fault, I'll give her a bath. Besides, I was the one who threw the sand at her." Heero said as he took Kay to the bathroom to give her a bath.

"How come Heero won't do fun stuff with me?" Duo asked. Kai shook her head.

"Maybe because he feels that he has to be part of her life." Kai mumbled.

"Of course he does." Duo said. Kai turned to Duo.

"What do you mean?" Kai asked.

"Well, when Kay and I were watching tv earlier, she told me that if I die, she wants Heero to be her father." Duo said. Kai sat down on the couch.

"What made her say that?" Kai asked.

"She said that you had told about your feelings towards the both of us. She feels the same. Well, not exactly the same, but she sees both me and Heero as father type people. She loves Heero as much as we do. She just wants you to understand that perhaps you two would be happy living with Heero after I die." Duo said. Kai sighed and put her head in her hands.

"I guess she has a point, but Heero would have to feel the same way. I don't want to force Heero into anything he doesn't want to." Kai said sadly. Duo walked over to her and placed an arm around her shoulders.

"Don't worry. I'm sure the way he feels towards Kay is the same as he feels for you. I'm sure he thinks the same way about all of this." Duo said. Kai looked up at Duo with watery eyes.

"How can you be so sure that everything will work out alright? Kai asked. Duo watched as the tears flowed from her eyes. He wiped them off of her cheeks.

"Because I know that Heero would rather die than let you raise Kay by yourself." Duo reassured. Kai nodded and smiled.

"You're right, Duo. Everything will turn out for the best." Kai said.

Quatre was walking into the livingroom when he heard someone plucked the strings of a violin. Quatre looked in the nursery and saw Kay with a small violin. She plucked them very carefully, like she was afraid if she plucked any harder, she would break them. Quatre smiled and went to his room to get his own violin. Then he returned to the nursery.

"Hey there, little one. Want me to teach you how to make different sound on the violin?" Quatre asked. Kay smiled and nodded.

"I don't know how to hold it like you do, though." Kay said. Quatre smiled.

"Of course you don't. That's why I'm going to teach you how to play." Quatre said. "Now just try to do what I do, ok?

"Okie." Kay said. Quatre held his instrument and Kay mimicked him. Soon, Quatre had her playing her own music. She was a quick learner.

Trowa heard the violin music coming from the nursery and stood in the doorway. He saw the two of them playing the same thing. Trowa laughed. Kay seemed to be learning what to do by listening and watch Quatre. Kay was quite a remarkable child. It was amazing the things she could do. She must of inherited her mother's musical abilities. Trowa went to his room to get his flute. When he returned to the nursery, Quatre and Kay had stoped. Trowa frowned and Kay laughed.

"We were just waiting for you to come back, Uncy Trowa." Kay said. Trowa shook his head. Even though the child was capable of speaking very well, there were still words she refused to say right. Like Uncle and Quatre. It was cute.

Trowa brought his flute to his mouth and the three of them started to play. It was interesting to hear let alone play. It was three totally different types of playing. Kay had already established a sound and tone of her own. She seemed to have taken on a Myrian style of playing, even though she had never heard a Myrian play. Yet hearing the trio made everyone relax a little. Kay had found something to keep both her mind and herself busy for hours. Everyone was greatful to both Quatre and Kai for that.
