Karatsu Ware (Ceramics)

Karatsu is widely known for its ware kilns and beautiful ceramics.

Karatsu Ware is the name for potteries produced in Karatsu city.

Many kilns are supposed to have been built by potters who were taken

to Japan from Korea after the war between Japan and Korea (1592 to 1597).

The free and simple style of Karatsu ware is praised by masters of

the tea ceremony.
