Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki

Tenchi Muyo!

RYO-OHKI

Synopsis

In the OAVs, Tenchi was just your normal teenaged boy. He lived in his house with his father, Nobuyuki, and his grandpa who ran the temple near by, Yosho. Everything was fine until the day Tenchi released Ryoko from the mystical cave. As luck might have it, a vengeful princess of the royal family Jurai, Ayeka, happened to be close enough to Earth to find that Ryoko was living there. It turned out, that Ayeka's only love had left the planet Jurai to capture the space pirate Ryoko with plans to never return. Ryoko and Tenchi were captured by Ayeka, only to be set free that night by Ayeka's little sister, Sasami. Well, after a rather amusing space battle between Ayeka and Ryoko (in her spaceship/cabbot Ryo-ohki), Ayeka and Sasami were left stranded on Earth, forced to live with Ryoko in the Masaki residence.

Ryoko also lost her ship Ryo-ohki, but not to long after its death a newborn Ryo-ohki (in cabbot form, of course) hatched. After a while, things settled down and everybody went to visit Tenchi's grandma (on Nobuyuki's side of the family). The hot springs there were nice, but due to an unexpected crash-landing arrival by the less intelligent Galaxy Police agent Mihoshi, the house and hot springs were ruined and yet another attractive girl was stranded with Tenchi.

Once again things were going rather fine in the Masaki residence, that was, of course, until the most wanted criminal in the universe, by the name of Kagato, showed up. Kagato took Ryoko back to his massive battle ship, the Souja, as bait for Tenchi. Sure enough, Tenchi went after the bait with the rest of the girls behind him (except for Sasami, she wasn't old enough to fight yet). Kagato destroyed Tenchi, or so he thought. With all the furry she possessed, Ryoko escaped from the Souja to find Tenchi. In a mad rage, Ryoko, Ayeka, and Mihoshi then went off to battle Kagato. Mihoshi, being rather simple minded, managed to get lost. Due her great luck, Mihoshi was able to stumble across the greatest mind in the universe, Washu, and amazingly was able to set Washu free. As Washu told Mihoshi, she was a prestigious graduate student at the Galaxy Academy until she was kidnapped by her student, Kagato. Ayeka and Ryoko put up a good fight, but were unable to match the new power Kagato had finally stollen, the power of Tsunami. But thanks to Sasami, Tenchi was not killed earlier and was able to use the power inside him to destroy Kagato. And thus, the first set of OAVs ended with five attractive girls, all living with Tenchi!

A special OAV episode was then released, followed by the second set of OAVs which were to reveal even more of the characters' backgrounds. After some time had passed since the Kagato incident, a baby arrived in the Masaski residence. Tenchi's aunt need someone to look after her newborn and what better place than the Masaki residence with five young girls? After everyone got burnt out looking after the baby, Washu stepped in. Washu happened to be a mother once herself, that was until her husband's rich family took the baby from her. That and the fact that she feels Ryoko is her daughter because she was engineered with one of Washu's ovum made Washu quite capable for caring for the baby.

After the baby left, the Masaki family and company headed back to Tenchi's grandma's house. There we learn that Sasami and Tsunami have a special link. During Ryoko's attack on Jurai many years ago, Sasami wandered into the center of the planet where the main Jurai tree, Tsunami, was located. Sasami fell and would have died if it were not for her blood mixing with Tsunami. From then on Sasami and Tsunami were linked, almost as one. Due to that, when Sasami grows up she will look exactly like Tsunami (I wonder who that made jealous...hehehe).

When everyone returns to the Masaki residence after their so called vacation, yet another problem arose. Ryo-ohki began feeling like she couldn't help Tenchi out (Ryo-ohki likes Tenchi also? Not quite in the same way as everyone else, though.) This problem escalated when Ryo-ohki combined with the mass, taking on a semi-human form. The problem finally becomes resolved after some humorous events.

One day as Ryoko was walking through the forest, a robot of Dr. Clay named Zero showed up and took on Ryoko's personality, feelings, and form. She was to kidnap Washu so that Dr. Clay could bring her back to Tokimi, a sister goddess of Washu. In the end Dr. Clay was beaten by his archrival Washu (was there ever a doubt?) and Zero was combined with Ryoko. This seemed to cause no major (or even noticeable) changes in Ryoko. From all those events we also find out that Washu was once a goddess (and may still be, the episode wasn't to clear on that).

The second OAV series end with a visit from Jurai. Ayeka and Sasami's father, Azusa, and mother, Misaki, and Yosho's mother Funaho came to visit. Now why would such important people of the Juraian family come to visit such a distant planet? Well, Azusa wanted to take Ayeka and Sasami back to Jurai and Funaho wanted to know more about the powers of Washu. Well, Tenchi got to keep the girls due to Mihoshi falling out of the sky and landing on Tenchi's opponent, and Funaho learned that Washu's gems have similar powers as Tsunami. In fact, the Wings of the Light Hawk can also be access with the gems (some people interpret the conversation between Funaho and Washu differently, but that is the way I saw it).

One more OAV special was released called Mihoshi Special. It was an uninformative yet extremely amusing video. Rumor has it that there is a third OAV series on its way...OH BOY!
