It all began in the year 2000. Something was found in the Antarctic. An unknown object. Curious at wanting to know what the object was, mankind moved in to the Arctic and began to excavate the object hoping to found out what it was. But, then a catastrophy happened. The object exploded and melted the polar caps, flooding the world. The result of this disaster was the death of half the population of the world. Cities, that were once huge metropolises were now under water. Oceans became larger and also became the grave yard of millions of people. But, that wasn't the end of the object that had brought this disaster. This object was known to people as Angels.
Years later, the UN established the organization known as NERV, to accomplish one objective, the total destruction of the entities known as Angels. Using machines called the Evangelions, or EVAs, a group of pilots must enter these machines and combat the Angels, and prevent a Third Impact from happening. The second pilot chosen to pilot Eva Unit 01 arrived at NERV, in the year 2015, when the new Angel had come once again. His name was Ikari Shinji, and that's where the story begins.
