Apple History

My Hardware

Macintosh 512KE

The original Mac only had 128 kB or RAM, and the Mac 512 had (you guessed it) 512 kB. The 512KE was a 512 that could be expanded to 1 Mb. It ran System 6 from an external 20 Mb HD. (This Mac has now been sold)

Macintosh Classic

This is really a Mac Plus in a restyled case with a hard disk, but just as slow with its 8 MHz 68000 CPU. The memory has been expanded to 4 Mb (its maximum) and the HD is 40 MB. It runs system 7.0.1. I got this at a flea market for only 5 guilders (about $2.50) because the mouse was missing. It works fine though, even the battery is still working.

Macintosh Classic II

This was the last compact Mac to be made. Same CPU as the SE/30 (16 MHz 68030), but with a 16 bit data bus instead of 32, making it slower but cheaper. It has 2 megs of RAM, but is expandable to 10. The HD is 40 Mb. It runs System 7.0.1. I have another 4 Mb of RAM for it, if I can find the right screwdriver (a torque T15). The battery is dead, so it forgets the PRAM settings (and thinks the year is 1956).

Macintosh LC

16 MHZ Mac LC 'pizza box' with 4 Mb RAM and 40 Mb hard disk. With matching Apple 12 inch RGB monitor. Unfortunately it has no mouse and no cables. The battery is dead, but otherwise it runs fine. (This Mac has now been sold)

Power Macintosh 7100/80

My fastest Mac, an 80 MHz PowerMac. It has 56 Mb of RAM and a 500 Mb HD. No CD drive or monitor however (but it has an adapter for using a VGA monitor). It currently runs System 7.6.1 but I intend to upgrade it to MacOS 8.6 (which is not easy without a CD drive).

Discovery 1442AM modem

A 14.4 modem with a RS232 port which can be connected to the Mac with a special serial cable.
