Commodore History

My Hardware

Commodore 64 computer

The most successful homecomputer of the 80's. 64 kb of RAM (38, really). Great graphics and great sounds. A real keyboard, 2 joystick ports and interfaces for printer, floppy drive and tape. I bought this one in 1983 and it still works (but some keys don't always work anymore). The colours are beige with dark brown keys. It was made in England.

Commodore 1702 colour monitor

Still works, but the colours don't look as good as they used to. The housing has the same colours as the C64, beige with dark brown.

Commodore 1541 floppy drive

This thing was expensive and slow, and you could only use single-sided 5.25 inch floppies (about 170 kb per side) but you could use them double-sided by cutting a hole in your disks.

Commodore 1530 datasette

Designed for the VIC-20, later also used with the C-64. This thing is in white with dark brown (the VIC-20 colours). It took minutes to load your programs. I'm surprised to see that my tapes still load after 15 years in the box.

Commodore SFX music keyboard

This device fits over your C64, turning it into a piano. Comes with Music Maker software.

Commodore 16 computer

Successor to the VIC-20. Although it looks like the VIC-20, it is actually a cut-down version of the Plus/4. Basic 3.5 in ROM, 12 kb of RAM. Same housing as VIC-20 and C64, dark brown with beige keys. Some keys are differennt from the C64 (F7 is now called Help, and there is now an Escape key). There is now a reset button. The joystick and datasette ports are different from the C-64. It was made in England.

Commodore 1531 datasette

Only works with the C16 and the Plus/4. Same colours as the C16 (dark brown with beige).

Quickshot joystick + 2 joystick adapters
