Zhao Yun

Zhao Yun, one of the five tiger generals in Three Kingdoms Novel.

It was said that Liu Bei (Zhao Yun's lord) side was losing in a battle, chased by the enemy troops they fled in chaos. Zhao Yun was assigned to guard his lord's family when Liu Bei's wives and son lost in the flight. In the search he managed to find them. One of the wives was wounded, trusting her baby to the general she then committed suicide for not burdening the general in bringing the baby to safety. Zhao Yun then carried the baby on his bosom and rode through the enemy lines, killing many who blocked his path. It was said that his clothes color even turned crimson with the splattered blood of those he slaughtered.

In the end he managed to bring the baby back to his lord, killing dozens of enemy generals and packs of their troops. The bravery of this act was later recorded in this poem:

Blood dyed the fighting robe and crimsoned his buff coat;
None dared engage the terrible warrior at Dangyang*;
In the days of old lived the brave Zhao Yun,
Who fought in the battlefield for his lord in danger.

*The battle took place at Dangyang
